Group F in the World Cup hasn't gone how many would have expected with Mexico currently topping the standings.

Those betting money on outcomes and group winners at the World Cup currently rolling on in Russia have likely not been too happy. Even at this point, a week and a half into the tournament, none of the clear favorites before a ball had been kicked have really set the world alight with their performances. It has been more about the less favored nations making a name for themselves.

No country has currently done a better job at this World Cup than Mexico. The Mexicans opened up their tournament account with a win, and it was no normal win. It was an impressive, hard-fought, 1-0 victory over defending champions, Germany. History will tell you that no one in international soccer plays more efficiently than Germany. Well, that wasn't evident against Mexico.

That has taken a little pressure off the Central American side, but they didn't exactly make things easy for themselves in their second group game. No offense to their opponents South Korea, but they are no Germany. Nevertheless, Mexico only won by a one-goal margin once again them, 2-1, with Son Heung-Min's goal for Korea late in the day giving Mexico a little bit of a scare.

That obviously means that Mexico has the maximum possible amount of six points as it stands and top Group F. The wise money would have of course been on Germany prior to the tournament, however, they were almost eliminated after just two games on Saturday. Sweden went 1-0 up against the Germans and it took some late heroics from Toni Kroos to get them the win following Marco Reus's equalizer just after halftime.

Shockingly, Mexico still hasn't qualified for the next round despite their two victories. If Germany defeats South Korea on Wednesday and Mexico suffer a defeat to Sweden, themselves, the Germans, and the Swedes will all be on six points each. That means the top two will be decided by goal difference. The ball is very much in Mexico's court though, and even a draw versus Sweden will guarantee them passage to the round of sixteen.
