France has won its second ever World Cup, defeating Croatia 4-2 in the final in Moscow on Sunday afternoon.

This summer's World Cup in Russia has truly been one to remember for a number of different reasons. The controversy that surrounded the tournament before it had even begun had many fans doubting that it could be a success. The Russians have proved their doubters wrong though and not only did everything go off without a hitch, but it will be a World Cup that lives long in the memory.

The main reason this World Cup has been so memorable is because of the so-called bigger nations struggling to make a mark. The likes of Germany, Argentina, and Spain all crashing out before the quarterfinals. That left the door open for an underdog to try and make history. Croatia was that underdog, and the finalists came oh so close to tasting World Cup final glory.

It was not to be for Croatia though. Luka Modric and co gave it everything in the final on Sunday but just couldn't stop the dominant young side that is France from winning it all. The final score in Moscow was 4-2 and even though it wasn't Croatia's day, the side still gave it everything they had, impressive considering they had gone to extra time in every single one of their knockout games before the final. That's the equivalent of playing a whole extra game compared to their opponents.

One player in particular in the France side has shone more than any other at this tournament and he did again during the final, the nineteen-year-old Kylian Mbappe. The Paris Saint Germain forward netted France's fourth and final goal of the match, making him the first teenager to score in a World Cup final since the legendary Pele did so for Brazil all the way back in 1958.

The scary thing for any soccer fans who are not French right now is how young Mbappe and the France team is as a whole. Despite winning the World Cup this weekend, the only way is up for that youthful side. They are only going to get better and improve. This World Cup win may very well mark the beginning of a period of dominance in world soccer for the French national side. Step aside Messi and Ronaldo, Mbappe has well and truly arrived.
