There was speculation Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson would make a special appearance at WrestleMania 34 on Sunday but that plan appears to have been scrapped last minute by WWE.

Despite the apparent interest from both sides, The Rock now reportedly won't take part in WrestleMania 34 at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans due to a lack of commitment on his part to guarantee an appearance. The initial idea was that he would interrupt or be part of the "special performance" by Elias. There is no word on whether or not a replacement for that segment is being found or if plans for that segment are being changed or scrapped altogether. The segment was also speculated to include Jeff Jarrett and that may still be the case.

The report comes from Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated who is claiming WWE has backed off from the plans after being unable to nail down a "firm commitment" from Johnson. With WrestleMania only days away, it appears WWE has changed plans with them unable to secure certainties from The Rock.

The segment would have made perfect sense considering The Rock is not in "match shape" but would still be a valuable asset for the pay-per-view and his singing performances have provided some of the most memorable moments in WWE history. The partnership between him and Elias could have made for another "WrestleMania moment" and received a huge ovation from the live New Orleans crowd.

For fans who might be disappointed by this news, it should be understood that Johnson carries with him one of the busiest schedules in all of Hollywood. He likely would have loved to be there but working it into his many film, television and production commitments wouldn't have been easy and confirming his appearance but needing to pull out would have been worse than not confirming at all.

Like Chris Jericho did when he debuted in WWE, Elias would have benefited greatly from The Rock being part of his big segment. It may still happen but it looks like WWE is moving to Plan B. For many fans this will come as a disappointment but also news considering The Rock's appearance was one of the things that was flying under the radar.
