Apparently, Vince McMahon initially wanted to keep Becky Lynch away from cutting promos on TV due to her Irish accent.

Professional wrestling doesn't always have the best reputation when it comes to being politically correct. WWE has gotten in trouble for a number of different risky faux pas. There are also quite a few segments from the company's past that haven't aged well. Roddy Piper painting half of his face black at WrestleMania VI is just one example that springs to mind.

Even amid the women's revolution currently raging on in WWE, the company continues to make some rather ropey decisions. Its relationship with the Saudi Arabian sports authority flies right in the face of what WWE's female performers are doing back in the US. On November 2, 2018, WWE will head to Saudi Arabia for the second time this year. As far as we can tell, there will once again be no women allowed on the show.

WWE has also been guilty of stereotyping time and time again. In fact, another example of exactly that has surfaced courtesy of Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio. The wrestling journalist stated that when Becky Lynch first arrived on the main roster, Vince McMahon didn't want her cutting promos. Why? Because the boss thought no one would be able to understand her due to Lynch's Irish accent.

As we and Mr. McMahon have since discovered, The Lass Kicker can cut an incredible promo. What's more, no one appears to have an issue understanding her despite her accent. Lynch is currently SmackDown Women's Champion and since turning heel, her mic work has been impeccable. We wonder whether the WWE chairman apologized to her upon discovering this.

If all of the above is true, then it isn't the only example of Mr. McMahon discriminating against one of his Superstars for the way they speak. Drew McIntyre has spoken out in many interviews about how he had to take elocution lessons during his first WWE run. His Scottish accent was much thicker back then and the boos believed he needed to change that in order for fans to understand what he was saying.
