It is being reported by All Elite Wrestling that legend of the wrestling industry, Harley Race has passed away at the age of 76.

The new wrestling promotion has tweeted on Thursday, “AEW is saddened to learn that Pro Wrestling Hall of Famer Harley Race has passed away. Our thoughts are with his family, friends and fans at this difficult time," the statement reads.

At first, the news was not confirmed by WWE, their social media accounts or Race's World League Wrestling promotion. Typically, WWE is among the first to report such news. But, part way through writing this, WWE has also confirmed his passing. They also write:

Harley Race captured the NWA World Heavyweight Championship seven times, which stood as a record until Ric Flair broke it in 1991.

There were earlier reports that Race had not been in good health. Back in July, he had been hospitalized due to health concerns. Race then canceled all upcoming bookings and in March it was noted he was battling lung cancer. Eventually, it appears Race lost his battle to cancer and the world of wrestling has lost a great figure.

To this day, only a handful of Superstars can claim to have won more World Heavyweight Championships than Race.

What This Means

Race will be missed as one of the best and most entertaining wrestlers in the world. He’d legendary for being a role model to so many current wrestlers and for the stories of his time in the business as a real worker with no fear of getting a little wild.

We wish the best to the family and friend of Race and our condolences to everyone that was influenced by a man that meant as much to the wrestling business and maybe anyone.
