WWE is not banning Lars Sullivan's diving headbutt move but reports are that the move has been limited in its permitted use and saved only for special occasions. Instead, speculation is that Sullivan will be using The Freak Accident and the running sit-down powerbomb as his primary finishing moves.

Some are a bit surprised that WWE has not outright banned the diving headbutt considering the last two people to be really known for using it are Chris Benoit and Daniel Bryan. Benoit is now infamous for a murder-suicide that came from years of apparent brain damage and Bryan missed over three years of in-ring action because of concussion issues. It would be hard to blame WWE for not wanting that move to be used considering the controversial history it has in wrestling.

Still, it appears the company will be keeping a close eye on things. WWE officials have decided that Lars will be allowed to use the move at certain times and for special matches or moments, according to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter.

What This Means

This is a debate that has people on opposite ends of the spectrum.

Some people will probably not agree with WWE's decision to allow the move, even if they're monitoring things closely. Former wrestler and Hall of Famer Harley Race invented the move and said he wishes he never did because of the long-term neck damage it did to him.

Others will argue the move is actually safer than a running sitdown powerbomb would be. They may have a point. It can't be worse than a piledriver which is no longer permitted in WWE.

Either way, reports suggest that Lars will be allowed to use it when the company is really trying to get something important over and the rest of us will just hold our breath and hope Sullivan delivers the move and no one gets seriously hurt.
