The WWE have found a lot of success and plenty of superstars from the world of amateur wrestling from the likes of Gable & Jordan to Shelton Benjamin and even Dolph Ziggler, with the most notable being Hall of Famer Kurt Angle, so that makes one of their latest targets even more promising. Jacob Kasper is a two-time All-American Heavyweight Wrestler at Duke, and he’s long been in the eye of WWE scout Gerald Brisco, who referred to him as “a young John Cena”, so when he gets his 3-day trial at the NXT Performance Center in late June, he will be one to keep an eye on.

Brisco is often recruiting new talent at these D1 wrestling events, and as he told ESPN during their piece on Kasper, he only looks for “stars with the potential to headline WrestleMania.” The fact that he was so interested in the 6-foot-3, 230-pound heavyweight is a good sign for him going forward. It’s not to say that this is a done deal as of yet, because he still has the very intense 3-day trial coming up, but if he can show off the charisma, personality and athletic traits that he so clearly has, the WWE would be stupid not to snatch him up.

With so many independent stars down in NXT, they’re overshadowing the amazing work that’s being done by NXT’s Performance Center staff. So bringing in someone like this and developing him into a star would be a great move to prove just how good they are, and if all the things we hear about Kasper are true, we could be seeing him a lot sooner than we think.

So what do you guys think? Who is your favorite amateur turned pro wrestler in history? Do you think that Kasper has the skillset to become a WWE superstar? As always, let us know all your thoughts and ideas in the comments below.
