Raw Underground may be more than just "something different" on Raw as WWE tries to up slumping ratings. It could be the launching pad for a big match that fans have been waiting a long time to see.
Monday night, Shane McMahon introduced Raw Underground to the WWE Universe. For the most part, fans were not sure what they were watching. Was this a fight club? Was it sanctioned by WWE? Was it a platform for new stars or a way to use underutilized ones? But, when MVP, Lashley and Shelton Benjamin showed up, the picture started to become clearer.
The Hurt Business taking over the show wasn't just a coincidence. No, the idea here is that these are three bad a--es who WWE wants to present as bada--es. There's some debate about how effective a job the company did on night one having both MVP and Benjamin lose earlier in the show, but the idea was still fairly obvious. But, that's likely not where the story ends.
If Raw continues to push The Hurt Business as the King's of the Underground, the long-term plan seems inevitable.
Lashley should be an unstoppable force in that environment. He certainly looked like he was right at home and dangerous. You know who else would be good in that setting?...
... Brock Lesnar.
This Is A Match Fans Have Wanted
Bully Ray said on Busted Open Radio this week that he would have loved to see Lashley standing tall, only for Paul Heyman and Lesnar to walk through the door and claim no one could take the Beast Incarnate. Bully admitted this idea might have been too much for the first night of the new idea, but that doesn't mean WWE should rule it out completely. In fact, this could be exactly where they are going.
This seems like an ideal place to hold a match between Lashley and Lesnar. Two legit fighters who should fight in an environment as close to legit fighting as WWE can create. It doesn't need to happen right away. It just needs to be used to build Lashley up so that the eventual fight between the two feels epic.
Not to mention, Lesnar's addition to the underground would immediately legitimize the entire idea.
