According to Dave Meltzer, WWE NXT Star Wes Lee, one-half of MSK, suffered a broken hand at the NXT TakeOver: Vengeance Day show during a dive.
“Wes Lee did have a broken hand. He got it in the tag team match with the Grizzled Young Veterans on the TakeOver show on one of his dives. That’s why there’s no tag team title match with Lorcan and Burch against MSK. That was originally scheduled for Wednesday’s show because he’s hurt. The injury angle that they did on TV last week was to cover up for a real injury,” Meltzer said.
Lee, who is best known for his time in Impact Wrestling under the ring name Dezmond Xavier, signed with WWE on December 2, 2020. The Ohio wrestler, also known as a member of The Rascalz with Zachary Wentz and Trey Miguel, has performed on indie promotions like Pro Wrestling Guerrilla (PWG), where he was one-half of the PWG World Tag Team Champions alongside Wentz.
Lee made his WWE debut on the January 13 episode of NXT alongside Wentz, who is now known as Nash Carter. MSK debuted in the Men's Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic tournament, which they won by defeating the Grizzled Young Veterans, aka James Drake and Zack Gibson. On Instagram, Lee shared a video of his X-ray with the caption, “#XGene in process…#GYV watch your 6.”
As a result of MKS’s victory against the Grizzled Young Veterans, they earned a shot at the NXT Tag Team Championships. However, it is unclear when the NXT Tag Team Title match will take place since Lee is expected to be recovering for some time. As a result of the injury, the Grizzled Young Veterans were fined by NXT GM William Regal.
Other injured wrestlers include Kacy Catanzaro, who suffered a leg injury during her match against Xia Li. Catanzaro hasn’t been medically cleared yet. Leon Ruff was also injured by Isaiah “Swerve” Scott, aggravating his previous back and neck injuries during the match. Meanwhile, Kyle O’Reilly will be out for four to six weeks after being injured by Adam Cole.
