While it hasn't been confirmed officially that Zelina Vega is headed back to WWE, multiple reports suggest the story broken by FightFul Select (subscription required) that Vega is returning is accurate and new reports hint that WWE have already been working on creative plans.
The last time fans saw Vega, she was working with a mix of stars like Andrade, Angel Garza and Austin Theory. With Theory now in NXT and Andrade gone from WWE, only Garza would be the old associate she could slot back in with. That doesn't seem to be the plan.
While reports are that Vega will be coming to the main roster, there may be other ideas for her.
Steve Carrier of Ringside News writes: "...we CAN confirm that Zelina Vega's return is being discussed within the WWE creative team and the current plan is to bring her back to the main roster and not NXT." Unless Aleister Black is moved to Raw, she's likely headed for the blue brand.
So what will she be doing? Bleacher Report writes, "There are plenty of different options for Vega, be it as an in-ring worker or back as a manager. Don't be surprised if she pops up alongside real-life husband Aleister Black, who recently returned to television with an enigmatic new persona." Where she fits in his Tales of the Dark Father storyline is unclear, but if there's one thing fans of Vega know, it's that she's not afraid to take on a new character.
Doing something "out there" for Vega might be exactly what she's looking for. She's huge into cosplay and her social media profiles are full of photos of her in different costumes, playing the role of different characters. She also had a small part in the film "Fighting With My Family" so she's got the acting chops. Raw has Alexa Bliss as somewhat fantasy-based character. SmackDown could use its own.
Something Unexpected Would Be Best
Let's hope WWE and Vega really try something unique. Whether that be alongside her husband or as a stand-alone gimmick, one can only ask creative do more than bring her back as a manager. Give her a character she can sink her teeth into and really play up to its fullest potential.
If she happens to be part of Black's storyline, that could be a home run.
