Following The Horror Show at Extreme Rules pay-per-view this Sunday, WWE will shift its focus to next month's SummerSlam event on Aug. 23.

WWE was initially planning to run the show at TD Garden in Boston, Massachusetts. Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, however, the company was forced to relocate SummerSlam to the company Performance Center in Orlando, Florida.

It also sounds like some difficult circumstances have forced WWE to drastically change their plans for the SummerSlam 2020 event.

WrestleVotes reports that "the projected SummerSlam card that creative had in place a few months ago has been torn up." This includes the scrapping of two "major matches." WrestleVotes cited Edge's torn triceps injury and the lack of fans in attendance as factors, and that WWE isn't keen on bringing Brock Lesnar in an empty arena.

Several reports have indicated that WWE was planning to run a third Edge-Randy Orton match at SummerSlam. But the former suffered the torn triceps injury during the Backlash taping, and he'll be out of action for several months.

Reports also suggest that Orton will end up facing WWE Champion Drew McIntyre at SummerSlam. It was previously reported that Lesnar was going to participate at SummerSlam, but that doesn't appear to be the case now.

It's also important to note that Lesnar resides in Canada. Even if they wanted him for Summerslam, there's no guarantee WWE would be able to bring Lesnar into the United States with the border closed for non-essential travel.

SummerSlam Should Still Be A Great Show

Even if WWE has to run SummerSlam without major stars like Edge and Lesnar, and without fans in attendance, it should still be a great show. There are four intriguing championship bouts rumored for the card, and an Orton-McIntyre showdown could go down as the match of the year.
