WWE has brought back a couple of WCW pay-per-view names recently and it looks like Great American Bash could soon be joining that list.

Even though 17 years have passed since WCW went out of business and Vince McMahon bought his competition. There is still the odd sign that the boss holds a grudge against them, whether that's neglecting to push a former WCW Superstar or claiming their intellectual property as his own. In all fairness, those acts have become a lot more few and far between.

In fact, in the last twelves months, WWE has actually been reviving a couple of big shows that were synonymous with WCW and giving the defunct promotion the credit. The theme of last November's NXT TakeOver was War Games—a match made famous in WCW that had never appeared in WWE before. Plus, in that same month, a WWE Live Event in the Greensboro Coliseum was named Starrcade, another WCW pay-per-view.

Now, it looks as if a third big show that was associated with WCW may be making a return. According to SEScoops, WWE has recently filed a trademark for The Great American Bash. The notes with the filed trademark include phrases like "a show about professional wrestling" and "the production and exhibition of professional wrestling events" when it comes to reasons why the trademark has been filed for.

The origins of The Great American Bash date all the way back to the late 1980s when Jim Crockett used it as a name for his summer tours. It wasn't until a few years later that WCW adopted it and named a pay-per-view after it. Since the company folded, Great American Bash is one thing that WWE took from them in the early days following the buyout. However, the last time they used it was in 2012.

Now begins the speculation as to when and where WWE will use the name Great American Bash. Could the next show in Saudi Arabia fall under that name? Or perhaps the big Australia show that is taking place later this year? Maybe it will simply be the name of one of the regularly scheduled pay-per-views taking place at some point this year. We'll just have to wait and see.
