The New York Yankees continue to bolster their powerful lineup, as the team has signed second baseman Neil Walker to a one-year deal, according to Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports:

The Yankees had a hole to fill at second base, with 25-year-old utility man Ronald Torreyes atop the depth chart. Walker, 32, hit 14 home runs, 49 RBI and batted .265 in 2017 - which was split with the New York Mets and Milwaukee Brewers.

Walker's a career .272 hitter, and only adds more power to a Yankees lineup that features Aaron Judge and newly-acquired Giancarlo Stanton - two sluggers who both surpassed the 50 home run mark last season.

As D.J. Short notes, Walker joins a lineup that is absolutely stacked - at least on paper:

Though 2017 was supposed to a rebuilding year for the Yankees - who dealt away key players like Andrew Miller and Aroldis Chapman at the 2016 deadline - they managed to win 91 games, snatched the second wild card spot and fell just one game short of winning the A.L. pennant.

Walker is a switch hitter with a good mix of power and contact hitting, but he is limited defensively. As such, the Yankees may employ Walker, Torreyes and other players at the position. But at the very least, Walker gives another powerful bat - and his switch hitting abilities will be a big advantage in the American League East.

With Walker signed and the Philadelphia Phillies landing Jake Arrieta on Sunday, the MLB free agent market is quickly turning thin. Mike Moustakas, Jonathan Lucroy and Lance Lynn are among the other big names who've signed with clubs over the past week. Now, Walker is off the market.

At this point, Alex Cobb is probably the best player remaining on the market. Yankees fans shouldn't get their hopes up, however. The rotation is already set with C.C. Sabathia, Sonny Gray, Masahiro Tanaka, Luis Severino and Jordan Montgomery.
