The NFL season is just two months away and there are still a handful of questions about the quarterback positions for many teams in the league. The NFL is now a passing league and without a good quarterback, there isn't much chance the franchise is going anywhere.

While anything can happen and there will undoubtedly be players that make massive leaps in development and other players can fall off of a cliff. These are the signal callers that will have fans nervous when the season starts and look to be the worst in the division at the moment. It may change throughout the season, but these are the quarterbacks that are the worst in their division currently.

8 AFC East - Zach Wilson

This choice may look dumb by the end of the season, as Zach Wilson has a ton of potential. However, Wilson is still not at the level of Josh Allen, and didn't have a better season than Mac Jones last year. The debate will come down to Wilson or Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa.

However, with the experience that Tagovailoa has, he just beats out Wilson in terms of the beginning of the season, but Wilson does have the higher ceiling, and could very well surpass Tagovailoa in just a few weeks of the next NFL season. With one of the best drafts in the NFL this year, the Jets should be better, making Wilson better himself.

7 AFC North - Kenny Pickett/Mitch Trubisky

Whether the Pittsburgh Steelers start the new season with rookie quarterback Kenny Pickett or veteran Mitch Trubisky, they will still come into the season with the worst quarterback, largely due to the unknown of Pickett. The AFC North has some of the best quarterbacks in the NFL, with former NFL MVP Lamar Jackson, Super Bowl runner-up Joe Burrow, and Deshaun Watson.

However not much is known on if Watson will be allowed to play this season, as he could face a suspension and the Browns will quickly have the worst quarterback in the division. For now, though, Trubisky is still seen as a bust looking to rebound his career, while Pickett is as unproven as can be.

6 AFC West - Derek Carr

Derek Carr points

It is unfair to say that Derek Carr is the 'worst' quarterback in the AFC West. However, that goes to show how elite the AFC West is when it comes to quarterbacks. With Patrick Mahomes, Justin Herbert, Russell Wilson, and Derek Carr, the AFC West may have the strongest group of quarterbacks to play in the same division in NFL history.

One could make the argument that Carr is over Wilson, and a new environment may prove to be a struggle for the former Super Bowl-winning quarterback, but at the moment due to his history,Wilson still beats out Carr. However, Carr is undoubtedly the best player on this list.

5 AFC South - Davis Mills

Although Houston Texans quarterback Davis Mills shocked many, the third-round pick showcased some real promise last season. Mills is still the worst quarterback on this list, due to Trevor Lawrence's incredible potential, and Matt Ryan and Ryan Tannehill being extremely solid veteran quarterbacks. In terms of the Houston Texans issues, Mills is not one of the top on the list. Mills set a Houston Texans record for most passing yards by a rookie in franchise history as well as the highest completion percentage by a rookie in franchise history.

The Texans do not have the longest history of starting rookie quarterbacks, but Mills still has a lot of potential and his name on this list should not indicate that he cannot be a quality quarterback in the league for years to come.

4 NFC North - Jared Goff

Like many positions for the Detroit Lions, they come in last in their division. Quarterback is no different as the former Super Bowl runner-up quarterback Jared Goff has fallen off of a cliff the last few seasons. Golf is certainly not the quarterback that he was in his heydays in Los Angeles.

That isn't to say that Goff is a terrible quarterback, and he is certainly a borderline starter, but with a division that contains back-to-back MVP Aaron Rodgers, a solid Kirk Cousins, and a quarterback with loads of potential Justin fields, Goff is the lowest quarterback in the division.

3 NFC South - Marcus Mariota

If Tom Brady had not returned to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the NFC South could look like the worst division for quarterbacks. Without Brady, the best quarterback in the division would have been unquestionably Jameis Winston, who is a roller coaster of a quarterback at best. The Panthers and Falcons both have interesting quarterback decisions, with both having to make a decision on a veteran like Sam Darnold in Carolina's case and Marcus Mariota in Atlanta or go with the young Matt Corral and Desmond Ridder.

Ultimately though, NFL teams typically go with a veteran quarterback at the beginning of the season and Mariota has not been a true starting quarterback since 2018. Although the former Oregon product does a good job at not turning the ball over, he still struggles to compete at a high level.

2 NFC East - Carson Wentz

This is a pick that could go either way. Washington Commanders quarterback Carson Wentz has seen himself on three teams in as many years, and New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones has certainly not lived up to the potential that the Giants drafted him with.

However, Jones' recent lows have not been as low as Wentz. Wentz has been on a steep decline since his 2017 season that saw the Eagles win the SuperBowl without him playing due to injury. The North Dakota State alumni are now with Washington, and Wentz is likely entering his last opportunity as a solidified starting quarterback in the NFL

1 NFC West - Drew Lock/Geno Smith

The Seattle Seahawks have gone into full rebuild mode after trading star quarterback Russell Wilson. The Seahawks shockingly did not prioritize quarterback in the draft, leaving players like Malik Willis, and Desmond Ridder to fall to other organizations. The Seahawks probably have the weakest quarterback room in all of the NFL, with Drew Lock and Geno Smith competing for the starting job.

No matter which quarterback suits up for Seattle this year, they currently do not have the talent of current Super Bowl winning quarterback Matthew Stafford, Kyler Murray, or even a young promising Trey Lance. There is still a chance Seattle could be the team that lands Baker Mayfield and there are compelling arguments on both sides if that changes this list at all or not.
