The careers of both Okada and Omega saw a massive up-lift after NJPW announced their first ever one-on-one match, which was set to main event Wrestle Kingdom 11 for Okada's IWGP Heavyweight Championship. The match sent shock waves throughout the world of pro wrestling, and was rated 6 stars by Dave Meltzer. The duo then went on to have 3 more insane matches within the next 18 months, which finally saw Omega dethrone Okada to win the championship. 8 Omega's Reaction To The Rematch Announcement

After the huge success of their Wrestle Kingdom bout, the New Japan Pro Wrestling's management left no stone unturned in order to capitalize from this massive momentum. The promotion soon announced the rematch between the two stars, which was set for the Dominion show in June later that year.

While the wrestling fans rejoiced at the announcement of what was till that point the Match of the Year, Omega had a different perspective. Prior to the Dominion 2017 bout, Omega expressed his opinion in an interview with ESPN. The then-leader of the Bullet Club talked about how he felt that the rematch was happening "too soon", and that he would have rather preferred to revisit this feud at a later moment.

One of the major setbacks for All Elite Wrestling in 2022 has been the missing presence of company EVP Kenny Omega. This is due to Omega rehabbing from his neck, knee, shoulder, and Vertigo issues he suffered in the last few years.

In his guest appearance on the Wrestling Observer Radio, Omega went into detail how he suffered the latter of the injuries. As per Kenny, during his third bout with Okada during the G1 Climax, he was hit hard by a dropkick from the Rainmaker. He then went on to add how following the match he started noticing symptoms of this rare medical condition he had developed.

Omega, who was the fourth leader of the faction, became the first ever member of the villainous group to main event NJPW's Tokyo Dome Show at WK11. This was later achieved by Jay White in 2021, who was the one to take over the leadership from Kenny.

4 A Domino Effect Of AJ Style's NJPW Departure

Just a year before main eventing Tokyo Dome with Okada, Kenny Omega was a part of NJPW's junior division alongside Nick and Matt Jackson. However, due to the sudden exit of AJ Styles, Doc Gallows, and Karl Anderson, Omega got the chance to move up to the heavyweight division.

As revealed by The Elite on an episode of their show Wrestlers Ordering Room Service, NJPW's Head Booker was sent into panic mode with the revelation of Styles' departure. Upon the news, Gedo quickly reached out to Kenny letting him know that he was being moved up to the heavyweight division and being made the new leader of the Bullet Club, essentially filling Styles' spot on the roster. As per Kenny the entire the direction for his character was changed overnight, which ultimately led to the rivalry with Okada.

Even though all four matches between Omega and Okada are a class apart, fans cannot help but argue over which match they believe is the finest one among all. While the most common arguments are made for the first, second, and fourth bout, the Best Bout Machine tends to disagree with them all.

As per Omega, his personal favorite match is his third match with Okada. Kenny explained how the match was able to prove that not every match needs to go 40+ minutes to tell a compelling story. Moreover, Omega had that 25 minute match with Okada towards the end of an exhausting G1 run, and was able to wrestle at that speed with Okada for 25 minutes with a broken ankle.

At Dominion 2017, Omega and Okada went on to a 60-minute time limit draw. The biggest moment for the night was when Kenny finally connected the One Winged Angel on Okada. Due to the move being extremely protected, many were tricked into believing that it was the end for Okada's historic title reign. However, the champion was able to get his feet on the rope, to what caused a massive reaction from the crowd in Osaka.

In that one moment Okada created history, as he became the first person to successfully get a rope break after Kenny's finisher. Moreover, Okada also became the second only to survive that move, with the first one being Kenny's Golden Lovers partner Kota Ibushi.

1 NJPW Had Plans For More

After dethroning Okada, Omega did not remain champion for long as he lost the title to Hiroshi Tanahashi at Wrestle Kingdom 13. This was way sooner than what NJPW had planned, as Kenny was on his way out of the promotion to launch All Elite Wrestling.

As per Dave Meltzer, NJPW wanted to do Omega vs Okada 5 at the NJPWxROH G1 Supercard show from the Madison Square Garden. Meltzer also added that as per his sources, Gedo wanted the duo to meet one more time at Wrestle Kingdom 14, as a part of the Double Gold Dash.
