WWE's developmental brand NXT is about to undergo another makeover -- one year after it was rebranded as NXT 2.0!A new NXT was unveiled at the conclusion of this week's special first-anniversary edition of NXT 2.0 on USA Network. The 2.0 part of the branding has been dropped, and the logo's color scheme is back to the black and gold aesthetic of the brand's original incarnation.
On its social media platforms, WWE shared a video package narrated by the company's senior vice president of talent development, Shawn Michaels. Over a montage of huge NXT moments from the past year, Michaels said that NXT's purpose will always be to develop WWE Superstars.
As you might recall, Shawn Michaels was promoted to his current position last week, as reported by CBS Sports. HBK is now the senior vice president of talent development creative. The move came just a few weeks after Michaels was named vice president of talent development creative.
As you'll recall, NXT was relaunched as NXT 2.0 last September. As well as new branding, the revamped version of NXT featured multiple new faces, with several trainees being promoted to on-screen roles. Last year's NXT WarGames event featured a WarGames match between Team Black & Gold (Tommaso Ciampa, Johnny Gargano, Pete Dunne, and LA Knight), representing the prior incarnation of WWE's developmental brand, and Team 2.0 (Bron Breakker, Carmelo Hayes, Grayson Waller, and Tony D'Angelo) (with Trick Williams), representing the revamped version. The new blood emerged from the match with the W, and all of Team 2.0's participants have been featured prominently on NXT TV since.
During a chat with Jim Varsallone shortly after the revamp, Michales spoke very highly of NXT 2.0 and its current crop of up-and-coming rookies.
"We are the only brand in the entire world that is bringing real, true to life, young, fresh, men and women that are going to be the stars of Raw and SmackDown in the next five to ten years," HBK said. "It's just that simple. It starts all here. Bron Breakker, Tony D'Angelo, Grayson Waller, numerous other people where you are watching their first, second, third, tenth matches. Bron Breakker, Tony D'Angelo, they are going to go out there at WarGames, one of our biggest shows of the year, and it's their tenth to fifteenth matches," he continued. "Nobody has been thrown into the deep end like these young men and women have. They've done a fantastic job and it's awesome to see."
