Wednesday's AEW Dynamite opened with an All-Atlantic Title defense as Orange Cassidy put his championship on the line against Jay Lethal. Despite the distractions at ringside, Cassidy emerged from the match victorious, ensuring his title reign continues. It also means he has set a pretty impressive record in AEW considering the short length of his reign.

More Men's Singles Defenses Than Anyone In AEW History

Despite only beating Pac for the All-Atlantic Title three months ago, Cassidy has already successfully defended the championship more than anyone has defended a men's singles title in one reign in all of AEW's history. Cassidy's win over Lethal was the tenth time he has successfully defended the championship, setting a new record.

The list of wrestlers who have tried and failed to dethrone Cassidy so far includes Trent Seven, Kip Sabian, and Luchasaurus. A couple of those matches have been triple threats, making Cassidy's successful defense streak even more impressive. Add to that the fact there have been a number of men's singles reigns in AEW far longer than Cassidy's, Pockets is doing some pretty tremendous work right now.

Longer Reigns, Fewer Matches

Despite holding the AEW Championship for almost an entire year, Kenny Omega only successfully defended the title half as much as Cassidy has already managed to defend his own gold. The man Cassidy has now beaten for the record is the current TNT Champion, Darby Allin. During Allin's first reign with the title, the current champ defended the belt nine times, losing it at the tenth time of asking to Miro.

Cassidy has some catching up to do if he wants that overall record. Jade Cargill, who is yet to lose a single match in her AEW career, has successfully defended the TBS Title on 17 occasions. He has already surpassed the longest reigning AEW Women's Champion Hikaru Shida who only successfully defended the title eight times despite holding it for a year and a week.
