In one day, Roman Reigns and Brock Lesnar will rekindle their feud for (perhaps) the final time ever at WWE SummerSlam.

The Tribal Chief and The Beast Incarnate will square off for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship in a Last Man Standing match. WWE has been hyping this up as the final match between the two future Hall of Famers, but only time will tell if WWE actually stays committed to that stipulation.

Lesnar, of course, is among the small list of opponents who could realistically defeat Lesnar to become the new champion. Considering that he's already lost two matches to Reigns over the last nine months, it does makes sense for Lesnar to end The Tribal Chief's record-setting title reign.

In the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter (subscription required), Dave Meltzer wrote, "The main event for Clash at the Castle in Cardiff is expected to be Reigns vs. Drew McIntyre." Meltzer explained that The Tribal Chief vs. McIntyre was the planned main event for Clash at the Castle for a while.

Roman Reigns v Brock Lesnar WrestleMania 38 Cropped

McIntyre and Sheamus will square off on today's episode of WWE SmackDown to determine the No. 1 contender for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship at Clash at the Castle. Barring a change of plans, it appears as though the 37-year-old McIntyre will finally get the opportunity to challenge Reigns.

It's also worth noting that Reigns is 3-2 in singles matches against Lesnar., and that he's won each of the last three meetings (SummerSlam 2018, Crown Jewel 2021 and WrestleMania 38). Another monumental win over his longtime rival would certainly mark another defining moment in Reigns' historic run as the Universal Champion

Can Roman Reigns Reach The 700-Day Milestone?

If Reigns defeats Lesnar at SummerSlam, he will most likely hit the 700-day mark as the Universal Championship holder next week. The last major obstacle would be getting past Theory, who previously stated his plans to cash in the Money in the Bank contract against the winner of Lesnar vs. Reigns at SummerSlam.
