It's seemingly only a matter of time until former Women's Tag Team Champions Sasha Banks and Naomi return to WWE.

The two stars walked out of the 5/16 Raw show due to apparent unhappiness with the creative plans that evening. On the ensuing episode of SmackDown, Michael Cole announced that the two had been suspended indefinitely and that a tournament would be held to decide the new Women's Tag Team Champions.

It looked like both stars were on their way out of the company, but recent reports have suggested that the two recently reached agreements to return following the change in leadership. Vince McMahon announced his retirement three weeks ago, and Stephanie McMahon and Nick Khan were named the co-CEOs of WWE. Triple H was named the new Head of Talent Relations and the leader of WWE creative.

Regarding the plan for their returns, Dave Meltzer suggested in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter (subscription required) that "the idea is for them not to be in the tournament and have them surprise appear later."

Sasha Banks Naomi WWE Women's Tag Team Champions

The remaining tag teams for the Women's Tag Team Championships tournament are Asuka and Alexa Bliss, Natalya and Sonya Deville, Iyo Sky and Dakota Kai, Nikki A.S.H. and Doudrop, Aliyah and Raquel Rodriguez, Shotzi and Xia Li and Nikkita Lyona and Zoey Stark. Rodriguez and Aliyah will face Shotzi and Li on today's episode of SmackDown.

WWE's Reported Plans For Naomi & Banks On 5/16 Raw Show

Apparently, the plan was for both Naomi and Banks to compete in a Six-Pack Challenge to determine the new No. 1 contender for Bianca Belair's Raw Women's Championship. Naomi was reportedly scheduled to win that match, but WWE had to change up the plans after the two walked out. Asuka would go on to defeat Becky Lynch in a singles match to become the new No. 1 contender, though the latter was eventually added to the title match anyway.

That's all in the past now, as Naomi and Banks are reportedly close to returning after all.
