WWE fans seemingly won't have to wait long for Riddle to return to the ring.

Riddle was initially scheduled to face Seth Rollins in a singles match at last week's WWE SummerSlam pay-per-view. That match was pulled from the card, however, after WWE announced a storyline "stinger" injury to Riddle. The latter was attacked by The Visionary during the SummerSlam go-home episode of Raw.

In an update, Dave Meltzer reported in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the former United States Champion "is expected back at the house shows this weekend to face Rollins." On top of that, Meltzer wrote that a Rollins vs. Riddle match at the upcoming Clash at the Castle pay-per-view is "confirmed internally provided plans don’t change."

Clash at the Castle will take place on Sept. 3 inside Principality Stadium in Cardiff, Wales. The lone confirmed match for the event thus far is Roman Reigns vs. Drew McIntyre for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship. For what it's worth, Meltzer reported in the Observer that Ronda Rousey is scheduled for the event as well.

Riddle WWE

Riddle made an appearance at SummerSlam and engaged in a physical confrontation with The Architect. Rollins, however, gained the upper hand and performed a Curb Stomp on the 36-year-old superstar. This year's show marked the first SummerSlam card without Rollins in nine years.

WWE Will Seemingly Continue Riddle's Big Singles Push

WWE has been pushing Riddle over the past couple of months as a singles star. His tag team partner, Randy Orton, remains sidelined as he continues to deal with a legitimate back injury. There's apparently concern within the company that The Viper won't wrestle again this year.

With Triple H now serving as the new leader of WWE creative, it'll be interesting to see how the company uses Riddle going forward. Vince McMahon was often against the idea of pushing top NXT stars following a promotion to the main roster, but even he seemed to be relatively high on Riddle.
