SummerSlam 2022 could reportedly include a rematch from the SummerSlam 2021 and WrestleMania 38 cards.

On Sunday, Bianca Belair managed to retain her Raw Women's Championship in a triple threat match against Asuka and Becky Lynch. The latter was close to winning the match, but Belair was able to get back into the ring and pick up the pinfall on The Empress of Tomorrow to remain the champion.

Belair became the Raw Women's Champion by defeating Lynch at WrestleMania 38 two months ago. According to a report, the two stars could meet again at the upcoming SummerSlam 2022 pay-per-view.

Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio (h/t Sportskeeda Wrestling), Dave Meltzer explained that WWE seemingly chose to delay the Belair-Lynch singles match with the idea of saving it for a marquee pay-per-view like SummerSlam 2022. This year's show will take place at Nissan Stadium (home of the NFL's Tennessee Titans) in Nashville, Tennessee on July 30.

"I would figure that’s SummerSlam (Becky Lynch vs Bianca Belair)," Meltzer said. "It was very clear that they were holding that match off for a while. I don’t think they’re going to wait for Mania because they don’t have the depth, probably, to wait til Mania. But, I figure they’ll wait to SummerSlam for that and that’s why they didn’t do it here."

Lynch defeated Belair in a matter of seconds to become the new SmackDown Women's Champion at SummerSlam 2021, which took place at Allegiant Stadium in Paradise, Nevada. "Big Time Becks" held the SmackDown Women's title for the next two months before giving it to Charlotte Flair in exchange for the Raw Women's title. Lynch would remain a champion until Belair defeated her at WrestleMania 38.

The next WWE pay-per-view (and the last for main roster stars until SummerSlam) is Money in the Bank 2022, which will run on July 2 at the Money in the Bank in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Roman Reigns vs. Randy Orton Is Also Rumored For SummerSlam

Plans can always change, but Meltzer reported in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter (subscription required) that Randy Orton is the planned opponent for Roman Reigns at SummerSlam 2022. With The Viper sidelined indefinitely, his tag team partner, Riddle, has been working with Shinsuke Nakamura against The Usos.
