The Cleveland Cavaliers have a lot of items on their to-do list. From waiting to see what LeBron James decides in terms of his status as a free agent to whether or not trading Kevin Love is in the best interest of the franchise moving forward to how to readjust if both are gone, this could be the beginning of much hardship for the organization. In the middle of all that, and perhaps each issue not mutually exclusive of the next, the Cavs have the NBA Draft to consider and hopefully getting value out of their number eight selection which they received via the Brooklyn Nets.

Sitting around the number eight spot, the Cavs have said they're disappointed they've yet been able to move up. Still, General Manager Koby Altman understands the 2018 NBA Draft is a deep one and they should be able to get a good player in the spot they currently hold.

Altman said, “As we’ve gone through the process this year, I think this is a really deep draft. If I was sitting with eight in past years, I might not say that. I think eight is very valuable this year.”

If the club hopes to retain James or move on with some modicum of success without him, picking well at number eight becomes extremely important. It means potentially adding a player LeBron thinks he can win with, or adding one that can keep the Cavs competitive without him. And, you can bet LeBron will be watching closely as James can opt out of his contract by June 29, 2018, and become a free agent on July 1, 2018. Could the right choice convince James not to do so? Perhaps.

If so, maybe point guard Trae Young is the man LeBron would like the Cavs to take? James said of the young prospect, “I’ve seen Trae Young play since he was in eighth grade. He’s been a part of my camp the last few years before he went off to Oklahoma. He’s a very special player. Can add a lot to any team … ”

The NBA Draft is a big night for all NBA clubs. But, perhaps with the uncertainty of the Cavaliers future hanging in the balance, it's a bigger night for them than anyone.
