So CM Punk has finally confirmed what the letters C and M in his ring name stand for. Those of you who follow the wrestler-turned-UFC fighter closely enough would have probably heard that they mean "Chick Magnet", however, the rumor had yet to be confirmed by the man himself.
Named Phillip Jack Brooks, the fighter used to be a member of a tag team called "The Chick Magnets" back when he was a backyard wrestler and the letters would follow him throughout his career.
On Friday, Punk confirmed the meaning whilst under oath in a slander and libel trial against Senior WWE Ringside Physician Chris Amann. ROH Performer Colt Cabana also took the stand as a claimant.
It was put on record that the CM in CM Punk indeed stands for "Chick Magnet", finally ripping the thin veil of intrigue shrouding the fighter's ring name.
Last year, Punk's wife, AJ Mendez Brooks, was interviewed and insisted that the initials were meant to be mysterious.
"I think it's supposed to be a mystery for the fans for the rest of time, so he says something different every time," she told Sam Roberts. "So I don't want to break that."
Bruce Prichard, though, claimed that Punk had previously admitted to him in conversation what the initials stood for.
"Well from his own mouth, he told me that it was Chick Magnet and he was given that name because of the tag team and it just stuck and he just never changed it after all those years," Prichard declared on his Something to Wrestle With podcast . "And it was that simple."
The 39-year-old kicked his wrestling metier off in a backyard wrestling promotion branded the Lunatic Wrestling Federation as part of a tag team alongside another amateur wrestler who was given the name CM Venom.
He left the federation after discovering that his brother, Mike Brooks, had embezzled thousands from the promo and it is understood that they haven't spoken since. After stints with ROH, TNA and ECW, Punk would rise to fame in the WWE, where he became a five-time world champion.
But his time in the ring came to an end in 2014, rather acrimoniously, and he signed a UFC contract that very same year under the name CM Punk.
"I've come this far with CM Punk. That's what people know," he told reporters when the news broke. "I'm trying to stick with that. I'm not shying away from it. I'm not ashamed of it."
