The Edmonton Eskimos have dropped NFL Hall of Famer wide receiver Terrell Owens from their negotiating list and making him a free agent, according to TSN's Farhan Lalji.

Owens is now free to sign with any of the eight other CFL teams. Earlier this month, the legendary wideout used a 10-day window clause that forced the Eskimos to offer him a deal by Tuesday. Now, the 44-year-old has the chance to explore all options and find a home in the CFL.

T.O. last played an NFL game in 2010, but the Hall of Famer ran a 4.43 40-yard dash in June, a sign to many that he can still play football. The CFL has brought in former notable NFL names in the past, such as Johnny Manziel and Chad Johnson, so it wouldn't be out of the ordinary for a Hall of Famer like Owens to take his world class talents north of the border.

Few wide receivers in the history of the sport displayed the dominance and consistency like Owens. He sits second all-time in receiving yards (15,934), and touchdown catches (153). Owens, after a lengthy wait, was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame this year - though he's already announced that he won't be attending the event.

Owens became renowned early in his career for the epic touchdown celebrations and pre/post-game press conferences. He once told fans to get their popcorn ready, and he delivered with this memorable celebration.

If his 40-yard dash is an indication of anything, Owens can still play football and would be a fine addition to any CFL team. Obviously, it'd be an excellent public relation move. A team that signed Owens would certainly see a spike in television ratings (in both Canada and the United States), and in ticket sales.

Will Owens get his popcorn ready for a CFL team? We'll find out soon enough, but it doesn't sound like the Eskimos are interested.
