Kevin Owens paid homage to the Attitude Era in a number of different ways during his cage match at WWE Extreme Rules.

Many fans believe that WWE has been doing Kevin Owens a disservice on Raw in recent weeks. There was a time in WWE where KO was portrayed to be a ruthless, violent, top guy. Nowadays he is simply someone who is too afraid to be in the same ring as Braun Strowman. We can't blame him, Strowman is terrifying, but The Prizefighter deserves better than that.

At Extreme Rules, Owens was locked inside of a steel cage so that he couldn't run from The Monster Among Men. The pattern of this feud pointed towards Owens having a pretty bad night. Surprisingly though, the former Universal Champion finally had a good showing. He got in a fair bit of offense against Strowman and KO even ended up winning the match.

Okay, so it may not have felt like a win to Owens. The Raw Superstar was thrown from the top of the cage by Strowman and his fall was broken by an announce table. KO's feet may have touched the floor first but he left the arena on a stretcher. The fall has been compared to Mick Foley's stunt at King Of The Ring 1998, and it isn't the only way that Owens paid tribute to the Attitude Era on Sunday night.

While KO had the upper hand in the match he gave a couple of other subtle nods to what is regarded by many as the greatest era in professional wrestling. Owens delivered a Stunner to his massive opponent, much like Stone Cold Steve Austin used to do, and even taunted The Monster In The Bank with a "suck it" gesture. While Strowman was handcuffed to the ropes, Owens delivered the taunt and started to ascend the cage wall.

Unfortunately for KO, that taunt may have been what gave Strowman the energy to break free from his handcuffs. Right after that he pulled them off the ropes and joined the eventual winner on top of the cage, throwing him from it soon after. If KO is on Raw tonight he likely won't be in great shape. It won't stop him from bragging about the fact that he now has a win over The Monster Among Men though.
