SmackDown Live commissioner Shane McMahon hasn't appeared on WWE television since he competed in the 50-man Greatest Royal Rumble in April, but we finally have an idea why he hasn't been present.

Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Radio, suggests that while McMahon recovers from sports hernia surgery, it's possible that WWE is keeping him idle from television so that Paige can build herself up even more:

“Maybe they just want to get Paige over. They don’t need him on TV. I mean really. Paige is fine in the role. Save Shane for when they’ve got a reason for him to be there and I haven’t seen a reason of late.”

Indeed, Paige has done an excellent job as the SmackDown Live general manager since replacing Daniel Bryan, who came out of retirement to wrestle again in April. Keep in mind that Raw commissioner Stephanie McMahon has barely been on television since WrestleMania 34, as Kurt Angle continues to do a fine job as the general manager.

Shane O'Mac competed with Bryan at WrestleMania 34, where they were victorious in defeating Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn. The two talents then moved over to the Raw brand, which ended the feud and has since kept McMahon out of television for the most part ever since.

The SummerSlam pay-per-view is just a month away, and only three matches are on the card thus far. Perhaps we'll see McMahon compete at the show, or at least help build up the matches for SmackDown Live superstars.

McMahon is extremely popular among the WWE Universe, but his presence simply hasn't been needed with Paige transitioning smoothly into the GM role. Perhaps WWE is awaiting a potential storyline feud for McMahon before they bring him back on television.

For now, SmackDown Live is Paige's show, and there's nothing wrong with that. The former Divas Champion is doing just fine running the show on her own.
