When it's all said and done, Randy Orton will join his father "Cowboy" Bob Orton in the WWE Hall of Fame. Orton celebrated his two-decade anniversary with WWE in April 2022, and it's a testament to his greatness that he is still wrestling. The Viper has had his fair share of injury woes throughout his career, but he has always found a way to bounce back from adversity.

The 14-time WWE World Champion would love to have the most World Championship reigns before he retires, and he could do it, provided he stays fit and motivated. Orton has wrestled in several high-stakes matches on the grandest of stages and has been able to showcase his best. Although, there have been times when some of Orton's matches have been lackluster. Nevertheless, Dave Meltzer's ratings on Orton's matches have sometimes been underappreciated, and other times generous.

Randy Orton made history at WrestleMania 38 as he became the first man to walk into WrestleMania as a reigning World Champion, Intercontinental, United States, and Tag Team Champion. RK-Bro's Randy Orton and Riddle defended the Raw Tag Team Championship against Alpha Academy and the Street Profits in the curtain-raiser on night two of WrestleMania 38.

This was a fantastic championship match with all three teams bringing their A-game. The action was fast and furious, and it was more than worthy of a spot on WrestleMania. It was slightly overrated, but Orton executed a brilliant RKO on Gable in midair to successfully defend the titles for his team.

9 Underrated: Randy Orton Vs. Shelton Benjamin - Bad Blood 2004 (3.5 Stars)

Randy Orton was six months into his sole Intercontinental Championship reign, and he had another stern test when he put the gold on the line against Shelton Benjamin. Their bout at Bad Blood 2004 was underrated, and Benjamin was looking to continue his momentum by unseating Orton as Intercontinental Champion.

This Intercontinental Championship bout is an underrated gem, showcasing both men at their best. The pendulum swung back and forth, but Orton retained the gold albeit by pulling Benjamin's tights.

8 Overrated: Randy Orton Vs. Roman Reigns - SummerSlam 2014 (4 Stars)

The Shield broke up in June 2014, and Roman Reigns was now on his quest to become a major singles star. The Big Dog and Randy Orton went toe-to-toe at SummerSlam. While it was a solid match between the pair, Dave Meltzer overrated it.

There were some good moments in the match with Reigns showing his toughness by kicking out of Orton's patented RKO. He then picked up a huge win over the SummerSlam specialist with his patented Spear.

7 Underrated: Randy Orton Vs. Christian - SummerSlam 2011 (4 Stars)

The rivalry between Randy Orton and Christian dominated SmackDown in the spring and summer of 2011, and it was a remarkable feud between the pair. At SummerSlam 2011, Orton was looking to reclaim the World Heavyweight Championship from Christian in a No Holds Barred match.

Neither man held back when it came down to using weapons. Kendo sticks and steel chairs were involved. However, Christian was going onto the top rope, but Orton smartly moved the steel steps into position, and he connected with the RKO onto the steel steps. Their match was fantastic, and Orton regained the World Heavyweight Championship.

6 Overrated: Randy Orton Vs. Drew McIntyre - Clash Of Champions 2020 (4 Stars)

Randy Orton continued his quest for his 14th WWE World Championship when he challenged Drew McIntyre for the WWE Championship at Clash of Champions 2020 in an Ambulance match. Their match took place in WWE's ThunderDome, and a live crowd was desperately needed for this bout.

There was tons of action involved and interference with the likes of Big Show, Christian, and Shawn Michaels getting involved in proceedings. McIntyre attempted a Claymore Kick, but he broke the ambulance door with Orton moving out of the way. The Viper looked set to prevail as he executed the RKO, but he took his time to close the other door in the back of the ambulance. McIntyre regrouped, and he took a leaf out of Orton's book by finishing him off with a punt kick.

5 Underrated: Randy Orton Vs. Kurt Angle Vs. Rey Mysterio - WrestleMania 22 (3.75 Stars)

Kurt Angle, Randy Orton, and Rey Mysterio's triple threat match at WrestleMania 22 for Angle's World Heavyweight Championship was the prime example of quality over quantity. They got under 10 minutes, but they made the most of it with an outstanding championship match.

Angle executed the German Suplex to both men simultaneously, and he had the match won twice when he applied the Angle Lock on Mysterio and Orton who tapped out, but the referee was distracted. Orton was close to winning his second World Heavyweight Championship with an RKO on Angle, but Angle kicked out. Ultimately, Mysterio captured his first World Heavyweight Championship at Angle's expense.

4 Overrated: Money In The Bank Ladder Match For A WWE Championship Contract - Money In The Bank 2013 (4.5 Stars)

The Money in the Bank Ladder match for a WWE Championship contract was strictly reserved for former World Champions. Randy Orton, two-time Money in the Bank winner CM Punk, Sheamus, Daniel Bryan, Christian, and the returning Rob Van Dam were involved in this all-star Money in the Bank Ladder match in 2013.

This match delivered as expected but it was overrated. Orton was involved in the thick of things and there were some brutal bumps. Ultimately, Orton won the Money in the Bank ladder match for the first time in his career after he RKO'd RVD, and he retrieved the briefcase.

3 Underrated: Randy Orton Vs. Triple H - No Mercy 2007 (4.25 Stars)

Randy Orton and Triple H's matches have been largely underwhelming which is disappointing considering the caliber of two of the all-time greats. However, their Last Man Standing match for the WWE Championship at No Mercy 2007 was the best in their rivalry.

This match had everything from broken broadcast tables to sickening chair shots. Triple H contested his third match of the night, and it had taken its toll on him with Orton ending the night as WWE Champion for the second time in one night.

2 Overrated: Randy Orton Vs. Edge - Vengeance 2004 (4.25 Stars)

Randy Orton had the longest Intercontinental Championship reign in seven years at 210 days, and he defended the gold against Edge, who was in a rich vein of form after he was on the shelf for one year after he underwent neck surgery. Nevertheless, their bout at Vengeance 2004 was a good one, but it dragged.

Tension rose as expected in a match of this caliber, and there were near falls and false finishes. Despite being the heel, chants of "Let's go Orton" reverberated around the arena. Edge captured the Intercontinental Championship for the fifth time in his career after he connected with a Spear on Orton after his back caught the exposed turnbuckle.

1 Underrated: Randy Orton Vs. Mick Foley - Backlash 2004 (4.5 Stars)

Backlash 2004 was a huge night in Randy Orton's career as he faced off with Mick Foley in a No Holds Barred, Falls Count Anywhere match for the Intercontinental Championship. The Legend Killer's title may have been up for grabs, but it was an afterthought as both men wanted to destroy each other.

Both competitors bled profusely, and this was an amazing match. Evolution was banned from ringside, but Orton didn't need them as he showed the world what he was capable of. Thumbtacks were etched into Orton's back, but Orton weathered the storm, and an RKO onto the barbed wire baseball bat was enough for Orton to retain the Intercontinental Championship.
