Promising WWE developmental prospect Bronson Rechsteiner has adopted a new ring name that pays homage to his legendary father, Rick Steiner.
On Friday, September 10, Bronson changed his Twitter handle to “@rexsteinerwwe” and changed his username to Rex Steiner.
The 6ft, 230 lb athlete is a former NFL player who was waived by the Baltimore Ravens last year. He's now looking to make a name for himself in sports entertainment. The 24-year-old comes from wrestling royalty, so his arrival in WWE was an inevitability. His father and uncle (Scott Steiner) were one of the most formidable tag teams of the 80s and 90s. The Steiner Brothers won titles with NWA, IWGP, WCW, and WWE.
Earlier this month, Rechsteiner took to Instagram to share an image of himself in what is presumably his new ring gear. The new gear was reminiscent of the vibrant singlets his father used to wrestle during his WCW days. In the caption of that post, he implied that he was NXT bound. The arrival of Rechsteiner's new look and new name coincides with the relaunch of NXT.
As we previously reported, WWE's president Nick Khan recently confirmed that revamp of WWE's developmental system was imminent. On August 27, the new logo and theme song for the revamped NXT were revealed by rapper Wale on social media. The company later revealed the first episode of the revamped NXT will air on September 14, 2021.
Rechsteiner signed with WWE in February of this year. At WrestleMania Backlash on May 16, Rechsteiner portrayed one of the "zombies" in the lumberjack match between Damian Priest and The Miz. In August, he portrayed a security guard during an NXT segment featuring Samoa Joe and Karrion Kross. The segment concluded with Rechsteiner being choked out by Joe.
