Roman Reigns has set yet another incredible record.

The Tribal Chief has now held the Universal Championship for 504 days. This is the longest reign with the title since its inception in 2016, having surpassed the 503-day record that longtime rival Brock Lesnar held from Apr. 2017 to Aug. 2018. The latter's 503-day title run ended at the hands of Reigns at SummerSlam 2018.

Reigns won the title at the Aug. 30, 2020 Payback pay-per-view, defeating Bray Wyatt and Braun Strowman in a triple threat match. Not only has he held the Universal Championship every day since, but Reigns has not lost a singles match cleanly during his title run.

The Tribal Chief is next slated to defend his Universal Championship against former Shield ally Seth Rollins at the Jan. 29 Royal Rumble pay-per-view. At the same event, Lesnar will look to retain his WWE Championship against Bobby Lashley.

Barring a change of plans, it sounds as though WWE will run a Reigns-Lesnar main event for WrestleMania 398 weekend on Apr. 2-3 in Arlington, Texas. If this is indeed WWE's plan, then we shouldn't be surprised if the WWE or Universal Championship changes hands at the Royal Rumble.

Reigns and Lesnar were scheduled to face off for the Universal Championship at the Day 1 pay-per-view on New Year's Day, but the former had to be removed from the show after testing positive for COVID-19. Lesnar was then added to the WWE Championship match, which he won after outlasting Big E, Lashley, Kevin Owens and Seth Rollins.

Roman Reigns Is On A Historic Run

Reigns has more than established himself as the face of WWE during his Universal title reign. Despite portraying a heel character, he is as popular as ever among the fans, and his merchandise sales are apparently on the same level as John Cena. WWE remains invested on pushing Reigns to historic heights, and there's no reason to think that'll change any time soon.
