In less than four weeks, Roman Reigns and Brock Lesnar will square off in another highly-anticipated championship match.

The two stars will face off at SummerSlam 2022 in Nashville, Tennessee on July 30. This will mark the sixth singles bout between Reigns and Lesnar, excluding their WrestleMania 31 match that was interruped (and won) by Seth Rollins following a successful Money in the Bank cash-in.

These days, Reigns is a heavy favorite to win any match he competes in. If anything else, it would be a stunner if anybody but The Tribal Chief walked out of Nissan Stadium as the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion.

But all good things must come to an end, and Reigns' record-setting title run is no different. He has reached new heights of greatness during the championship reign that is nearing its two-year anniversary, but for a variety of reasons, SummerSlam 2022 should mark the end of of his run.

If Not At SummerSlam, When?Lesnar and Reigns promos

At this point, it's safe to guess that Reigns' championship run will end at one of WWE's "big four" pay-per-views. Royal Rumble 2023 is still seven months away. WrestleMania 38 was three months ago, and Survivor Series isn't an option if WWE continues the Raw vs. SmackDown format.

That leaves SummerSlam as the best and most logical stage for Reigns to drop his championship. If it doesn't happen at "The Biggest Party of the Summer", then when? Will we have to wait until WrestleMania 39 weekend? SummerSlam 2023? Or will WWE choose to end The Tribal Chief's championship reign in rather unexciting fashion?

WWE loves to bring the "wow" moments at SummerSlam. Last year, for instance, Lesnar and Becky Lynch made surprise returns. The babyface version of Lesnar is well over with the WWE Universe, so the stage is perfectly set for Reigns to drop the championship in a stunning upset.

This could be WWE's ultimate "wow" moment of 2022.

Lesnar Or Money In The Bank Winner Make Perfect Sense To Dethrone Reigns

WWE has booked themselves into a very difficult situation when it comes to eventually ending Reigns title. Whichever superstar dethrones Reigns will have to be booked and used accordingly going forward. There have been too many instances of WWE poorly booking a superstar following a major championship run (Kevin Owens in 2017, Bray Wyatt and Braun Strowman in 2020, etc.).

At the end of the day, Lesnar is always the safe pick to defend Reigns. Regardless of how you feel about him, the man is always a giant draw, and things are always more interesting when he's in the picture. The fact he's a babyface now makes Lesnar an even better pick now to defeat The Tribal Chief.

But here's another option: Lesnar doesn't have to be the one to dethrone Reigns at SummerSlam 2022. The men's Money in the Bank ladder match could follow Seth Rollins' WrestleMania 31 blueprint and cash in during their SummerSlam showdown.

In order to protect Reigns, WWE could always go the easy route and have someone pin Lesnar to become the new Undisputed WWE Universal Champion. This way, Reigns' clean streak continues and he doesn't suffer too much from the loss. When the time is right, WWE can put the title right back on him.

Reigns' Title Run Is Getting Stale Anyway

Roman Reigns Champion

The word "stale" can be applied to countless WWE storylines, feuds and championship reigns that have taken place during the so-called "New Era". Reigns' Universal Championship reign is slowly but surely falling into that category.

Make no mistake, this run has propeled Reigns to a new level. He's beaten a handful of legendary opponents, and he has more than established himself as the franchise face of WWE. But the company is quickly running out of suitable challengers for his title, and at some point, WWE creative needs to go in another direction.

Two years as a major championship holder is too long, especially now that WWE has unified the WWE and Universal Championship belts into one title. Reigns is also working on a heavily reduced schedule now, and it's never ideal for WWE to have a part-timer as a long-term championship holder.

As previously mentioned, if the run doesn't end at SummerSlam? WWE doesn't have any upcoming ideal dates/events to end it. And you simply can't let him carry the title into WrestleMania 39 next year without dropping it at least once. Over two and a half years as the Universal Champion is far too long. Plain and simple.

So consider all of the factors, and it only makes sense for Reigns to lose his championship at SummerSlam in Nashville. Be it to Lesnar or the Money in the Bank winner, this is the right time and place for him to finally drop the title.
