Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns has commented on the idea of a potential dream match with Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson.

For several years now, many fans have held out hope for a dream match between the two WWE legends. Several reports have indicated that WWE wants Reigns vs. The Rock to headline WrestleMania 39 next year; the event is set to take place at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California on Apr. 1-2 weekend.

Nothing has been confirmed, of course. It's obviously difficult for The Rock to commit to a match well in advance given his busy acting career and commitment to reviving the XFL, which is set to relaunch next year. Though he announced his retirement from wrestling in 2019, The Rock later expressed interest in a match with the 37-year-old superstar.

During an appearance on the "Sports Illustrated Media Podcast" (h/t WrestlingInc.com), Reigns commented on the potential dream match with the sports entertainment icon.

"Update is Dwayne is dropping it with his own projects," Reigns said. "It's got to be pretty good, it's got to be pretty special. I think that just goes to show the clammer, the buzz for it, the chatter for it, the wishful thinking."

You may recall that an episode of Young Rock teased a future showdown between Reigns and The Rock. The longest-reigning Universal Champion in history brought this up in the interview.

"It's something that he definitely played into within 'Young Rock,' which as you know with him, everything is highly strategic," Reigns said. "A lot of synergy with everything that he does, with the projects he's guiding and has in mind. So yeah, I would say just based on that alone, it looks even better than it did the last time we spoke."

WrestleMania 39 is still more than seven months away, so WWE has considerable time to work on a potential Reigns vs. Rock dream match. In the meantime, The Tribal Chief is preparing to defend the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship against Drew McIntyre at next Saturday's Clash at the Castle pay-per-view. The event will be held inside Principality Stadium in Cardiff, Wales.

The Rock's Last WWE Match

The Rock's last WWE match took place against Erick Rowan at WrestleMania 32 six years ago. The Rock needed just six seconds to defeat the Wyatt Family member via pinfall. The Wyatt Family surrounded the ring and prepared for an attack on The Rock, but he was saved by former rival John Cena.
