There was a period in WWE where it felt like the tradition of one wrestler becoming bigger than the company itself had been left in the past. Hulk Hogan began that tradition, Stone Cold and The Rock continued it, and then John Cena appeared to lay it to rest. However, Roman Reigns may have revived it, and if he hasn't, he's as close to being bigger than his employers as you possibly can be in 2023.

900 Days As Universal Champion

A lot of that is connected to his incredibly long title reigns. Two of them, in fact, since The Tribal Chief is currently WWE and Universal Champion. The Universal Title run is the more impressive of the two. Not only because his run with it is now longer than any other title reign in the past 35 years in WWE, but also because Reigns has now been Universal Champion for 900 days.

If you are reading this on February 16, then today is Reigns' 900th day as Universal Champion. An incredible achievement, and one that dwarves every other Universal Title reign to have come before it. Even Brock Lesnar's first time as Universal Champion which lasted a very impressive 503 days. Probably a record most fans assumed wouldn't be bettered for a long time, maybe ever.

Does It End At 902?

Here we are less than five years later and Reigns is doing something most fans assumed was a thing of the past. Holding titles not for months, but for years. As for how much longer that reign goes, The Head of the Table might well lose both his titles this Saturday. Reigns will be tasked with defending the championships against Sami Zayn at Elimination Chamber, and there's a very real chance his Universal Title reign ends at 902 days.

If not, the next big challenge for Reigns will be Cody Rhodes in the main event of WrestleMania. While many fans are hopeful Reigns will lose one of his next two matches, others are figuring out ways the tiles can be split. That way, other Superstars can hold and compete for the WWE Championship while Reigns' run with the Universal Title can continue, perhaps even surpassing the 1,000 days barrier.
