Auxerre fans were so excited when their team beat Guingamp in the Coupe de France semi-final match yesterday that when the final whistle blew they stormed the pitch to celebrate. The only problem was that it wasn't the final whistle and the game wasn't over. There were 30 seconds left in the match and so the referee had to usher them off the field before playing out those final seconds.
Now, you would generally expect it to be a lot harder to get people off the field with fans running everywhere and stragglers not wanting to get off. But what really impressed me was how fluid it all was.
Just watch as the fans rush onto the field and then as they realize the game isn't over yet, turn around and rush right back off the pitch as if they had always planned to just do a lap around that half of the pitch.
