Drew McIntyre having two completely different chapters of his WWE career makes it easy to forget some of the more peculiar moments. WWE always saw something special in McIntyre from day one, but it wasn’t always an easy path. The first run was considered a failure since Drew never got over the hump to become a top star.

However, there were plenty of interesting moments that veered towards the weird side of wrestling. McIntyre’s return has been more successful with quite a few top-level memories like winning the WWE Championship for the first time or challenging Roman Reigns at Clash at the Castle. Each chapter of Drew’s career will be glanced back at to pinpoint the overlooked weird moments.

10 Goldberg Claiming He Doesn't Respect Legends

Goldberg and Drew McIntyre

WWE confused fans with the odd storytelling of Goldberg coming back to challenge Drew McIntyre for the WWE Championship. Goldberg arrived at the end of a Legends Night episode of Raw where McIntyre celebrated all the former stars.

This somehow offended Goldberg to come out and claim Drew was lying about his respect for no real reason. WWE was unsure of how to book this match and went the lazy route of Goldberg having manufactured issues with McIntyre that came off weirder than anything else.

9 Taking Wild Bumps In WeeLC Match

El Torito Vs Hornswoggle

Drew McIntyre’s first chapter of his WWE career featured many strange moments in the 3 Man Band faction. The trio of Drew, Jinder Mahal and Heath Slater adopted Hornswoggle as their manager for a few encounters against Los Matadors and El Torito.

WWE went the comedic route of having the two little people square off with their tag teams as backup more than anything else. The must-watch WeeLC match saw McIntyre taking a sick table bump and selling stronger than ever, even though the match was between El Torito and Hornswoggle.

8 Brock Lesnar Yelling For Him To Give Him Another Kick

Drew McIntyre Brock Lesnar

The program between Brock Lesnar and Drew McIntyre was working well in early 2020 before the pandemic took away from the payoff. One of the final major episodes of Raw before the shutdown of live crowds came in Barclays Center of Brooklyn.

The crowd was hot when McIntyre interrupted a Lesnar promo to hit him with his brutal kick. Brock walking up the stage afterwards led to another kick on the ramp to a bigger ovation. Cameras accidentally caught a rare moment of Lesnar yelling for Drew to do it again knowing it would raise the pop even more.

7 Forcing Teddy Long Into A Match

Drew McIntyre

One of the first noteworthy storylines for Drew McIntyre in his first WWE stint featured him abusing power as a heel when Vince McMahon dubbed him “the chosen one.” SmackDown General Manager Teddy Long was threatened numerous times from McIntyre having Vince’s ear.

An episode of SmackDown saw Drew forcing Teddy to have a “match” with him by laying on the mat and getting pinned. Long even had tears running down his face afterwards to sell the humiliation, but there was no strong payoff with Kofi Kingston and Matt Hardy as McIntyre’s other rivals didn’t feel big enough to stop him.

6 Forming Weird Trios Team With Bobby Lashley & Baron Corbin

The Shield vs Lashley McIntyre Corbin

The Shield reuniting a few times after they broke up created some odd makeshift heel teams to combat them. Drew McIntyre already had a failed trio with Braun Strowman and Dolph Ziggler, but he was placed in another for a different Shield dynamic.

Bobby Lashley and Baron Corbin joined forces with McIntyre as upper card heels to feud with The Shield in the final weeks of Dean Ambrose’s WWE tenure. The Shield easily got past them, but Drew looked odd teaming with heels that didn’t have much chemistry with him as partners.

5 The Miz Cashing In MITB On Him

The Miz wins WWE Championship

The Miz cashing in Money in the Bank doesn’t feel as important in 2021 as it did back in 2011. Many fans already forget about Miz holding the WWE Championship in the last two years since it made no impact. WWE had Miz cash in with the help of Bobby Lashley to make the moment feel strange.

However, the payoff was Lashley doing this to have an easier path of defeating Miz to become WWE Champion. Everything involved was strange, including Drew losing multiple title shots to Bobby to make Lashley’s ducking him in favor of Miz feel pointless.

4 Heath Slater Coming Back For One Night Only To Challenge Him

Heath Slater returns to Raw Cropped

Heath Slater was one of the WWE talents fired during the infamous budget cuts during the pandemic. WWE brought Slater back for one night only shortly after to challenge his friend and former 3 Man Band teammate Drew McIntyre.

The segment was met with mixed results with fans enjoying Slater showing a more serious side and tapping into real history. McIntyre winning was obvious, but Slater losing and going back away was confusing.

3 Breaking Apart Jinder Mahal's Motorcycle

Another former 3 Man Band member to have a new version of history with Drew McIntyre was Jinder Mahal. WWE booked Mahal to have a lengthy feud with McIntyre throughout the summer of 2021 playing into their previous history as friends turned enemies.

The angle was already off to a bad start since no one bought Jinder as a credible threat to Drew. Things grew worse with strange moments like McIntyre physically ripping apart a motorcycle that Mahal randomly had and cared about to get in his head.

2 Flirting With Kelly Kelly

An overlooked storyline of Drew McIntyre’s first WWE run featured a teased romantic angle with Kelly Kelly. The segments over the course of a few weeks featured McIntyre being kind and sweet to Kelly Kelly while he was a jerk to everyone else.

Kelly Kelly eventually caught on to his actions and witnessed Drew implying he had multiple personalities. The angle never went anywhere beyond McIntyre being a shady heel and Kelly Kelly being conflicted when having feelings for him.

1 Big Show Challenging Him After WrestleMania Title Win

Big Show and Drew McIntyre Cropped

WrestleMania 36 was changed a lot due to the pandemic, but the main event ended the way WWE always wanted. Drew McIntyre defeated Brock Lesnar decisively to win the WWE Championship in the main event, even if it took place inside an empty Performance Center.

The following night’s episode of Raw showed a filmed segment after the main event where Big Show randomly returned to challenge McIntyre for his newly won WWE Championship. Drew defeated Big Show to remain champ, but this came out of nowhere and had no logic involved whatsoever. WWE came up with this idea at the last second to the surprise of Drew as well.
