The minute the Hardys joined AEW the first topic of conversation brought up among fans was the "dream matches" they could have with the company. Many were unaware a ton of their AEW Hardys dream matches have already happened as the brothers have faced FTR, The Lucha Bros, and The Young Bucks at various organizations.
There are many "dream tag matches" that have occurred in different eras and different companies. Sure some were as cringe as the dream match of D-Generation X vs. The Brothers of Destruction at Crown Jewel 2019 and are often downplayed, but others happened in the early career or even in the prime of some of the greatest tag teams. This list examines the forgotten "dream tag matches" fans thought only existed in wrestling video games.
10 The Hardys Vs. The Young Bucks
The Young Bucks are often considered this generation's Hardys. There are many parallels between the two. It's hard to imagine that if Matt and Jeff were still in their 20s they wouldn't be at AEW. Although this is a huge dream match between two excellent tag teams that elevated wrestling (both figuratively and literally) the two tag teams have a pretty long history. Their match on AEW's Double or Nothing was the first major televised bout between the two, but the brothers have had matches dating back to 2014.
9 The Road Warriors Vs. D-Generation X
The Road Warriors elevated tag team wrestling to the prestige that carried in the generations since. The original D-Generation X was the next evolution of tag team partners. They were main event superstars who stole the show anytime they were on screen, but could also hold their own with the greatest of all time in the ring. The two generations did clash on an episode of Raw in 1997. Although the Warriors won the match via DQ, the bout still holds up and was one of the early matches of DX as Triple H is still under the ring name Hunter Hearst Helmsley.
8 The Steiners Vs. The Dudley Boyz
The Steiners impacted WCW the same way the Dudleys impacted ECW. They were tag team favorites that fans could not help but support. Although The Dudley Boyz and The Steiner Brothers didn't meet in the ring until they were both in TNA. It was 2007, and the Steiners were way past their prime, so the match wasn't great, but the dream matchup was still fun to see.
7 Harlem Heat Vs. The Outsiders
Although this seems like a match that should have happened in WCW 100 times, Harlem Heat and The Outsiders only competed in one televised tag team match.
At Halloween Havoc 1996, the nWo was still in its infancy, and Hall and Nash were still shifting away from a tag team to a trio with Hogan. The two legendary tag teams put on a great show where The Outsiders captured their first WCW World Tag Team Championship.
6 The Rockers Vs. The Road Warriors
The Rockers are often most remembered for their split up, but they were a big-time tag team and are on many fans' list of favorite tag teams. The Road Warriors and Rockers were complete opposites, in terms of in-ring skillset, which is why they are such an intriguing matchup. The Road Warriors and The Rockers did cross paths one time and competed for the WWE Tag Team Championship in 1991. The Warriors were victorious, and The Rockers would go on to never hold the Tag Team titles,
5 The Outsiders Vs. The Dudley Boyz
By the time the Dudleys were arriving to ECW, The Outsiders were in their prime and on the verge of establishing the nWo. It took another few years for the Dudleys to become mega stars and by the time they rose in prominence Scott Hall and Kevin Nash had already changed the wrestling world and were veterans. By the time this dream match occurred in TNA in 2010, The Outsiders were legends with nothing left to prove. Like many of the TNA dream matches that happened later in the career of wrestling legends, their cage match at TNA Lockdown was mostly forgettable, but seeing the two teams in the ring is a site that was hard to hate.
4 The Hardys Vs. The Usos
The Usos have risen to the top of the WWE tag team world in the same way the Hardys once did. The Hardy brothers versus the Uso brothers is a brother versus brother dream match-up.
The Hardys inspired tag teams like The Usos and fans did get this match up on an episode of SmackDown in 2019. The Hardys actually won the SmackDown Tag Team Championship in the ten-minute match that was way better than anyone expected it to be. This was also the last time the Hardys would win titles WWE.
3 Harlem Heat Vs. The Road Warriors
When The Road Warriors returned to WCW in 1996, a match against Harlem Heat seemed inevitable. Harlem Heat was as powerful as the Warriors, but also more elusive. The bout between the two Hall of Fame teams only happened one time on television during an episode of Nitro where the winner would become the #1 contender for the WCW Tag Team Championship.. The Warriors would win the match, but this was one of the few dream matches that actually occurred while both tag teams were still performing at a high level.
2 The Dudley Boyz Vs. The Young Bucks
The Young Bucks are always compared to the Hardys, but there are many aspects of Matt and Nick Jackson that are reminiscent of The Dudley Boyz. No one could argue that the Dudleys tag team moves were game-changing, and the Bucks have taken the baton and evolved tag moves even further. The two teams clashed on TNA One Night Only where the Dudleys were ultimately victorious. The match actually holds up well and was not the last time the two would battle, but was the best of their dream bouts.
1 The Steiners Vs. The Harts
Owen and Bret Hart might be the most famous pair of brothers to ever enter a wrestling ring. The two had completely different careers but were always respected among their peers. The two are more often remembered for their bouts against each other than the times they teamed up, but they were at one time "the brothers of WWE" the same way the Steiners were once "the brothers of WCW." The two sets of brothers clashed in 1994 in a match that lasted almost 25 minutes. It was the first and last time the two would ever be in the ring and was a precursor to the huge success both the Steiners and Harts would have.
