Early Wrestling Career

Adam Copeland was born on October 30, 1973, in Orangeville, Ontario, Canada. He is a lifelong wrestling fan and began training shortly after he graduated from Humber College.

Copeland made his wrestling debut on July 1, 1992, during an event in Toronto. He then wrestled across the American and Canadian independent scene under the ring name Sexton Hardcastle. In late 1995, Copeland submitted an audition tape to WWE at the suggestion of Bret Hart’s business manager, Carl De Marco.

First WWE Run

After making a few sporadic appearances for WWE, Copeland signed a developmental contract with the company in 1997. He made his televised debut the following year under the ring name Edge. Soon after making his debut, Edge joined Christian (Copeland’s real-life best friend) and Gangrel to form The Brood.

Edge and Christian eventually parted ways with Gangrel and competed as a tag team. They found immense success as a duo and helped revolutionize tag team wrestling in America.

Edge also achieved great success as a singles star; at WrestleMania 21, he won the first-ever Money in the Bank ladder match. On January 8, 2006, Edge cashed in his MITB contract to take the WWE Championship from John Cena, kickstarting one of the most heated feuds of both men’s careers.

Injuries And Retirement

Unfortunately, injuries hampered Edge’s pro wrestling career. In early 2003, Edge sustained a neck injury that left his arms feeling numb. He would have to have surgery as a result and was sidelined for over a year.

On April 11, 2011, Edge gave a heartfelt speech to the WWE universe. He reflected on the neck injury he previously endured and told the fans that the numbness in his arms had returned. WWE sent him for further testing and Edge was consequently diagnosed with cervical spinal stenosis. Edge was forced to retire as a result.

Edge continued to make appearances in WWE, oftentimes in backstage segments. He would also occasionally come to the aid of his friend and tag team partner, Christian. Edge was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2012.

Return To The Ring

In late 2019, rumors arose that Edge had been medically cleared to compete again. Edge denied these rumors, but that didn’t put an end to the speculation.

At the 2020 Royal Rumble, Edge made his triumphant return to WWE as a full-time performer. Though he would come up short in the 2020 Royal Rumble, he won the event the following year to earn a shot at Roman Reigns’ Universal Championship in the main event of WrestleMania 37.

After his loss to Reigns, Edge turned heel for the first time since his return. He formed his own faction called the Judgment Day and recruited Damian Priest and Rhea Ripley into the group. However, Edge would be ousted from the group as they elected Finn Balor to be their new leader.

On August 18, 2023, Edge defeated Sheamus in what would be his last match for WWE. He left the company the following month.

All Elite Wrestling

On October 1, 2023, Adam Copeland made his surprise debut for AEW at WrestleDream. He attempted to reunite with Christian Cage, only for the nefarious Cage to attack him.
