Early Life
Joshua (Jey) and his brother Jonathan (Jimmy) Fatu were born on August 22, 1985, in San Francisco, California. They are the sons of Solofa Fatu Jr., better known by his ring name Rikishi. The twins are part of the Anoa’i dynasty, being the first cousins once removed of Afa Anoa’i Jr. and Roman Reigns.
During their high school years, the twins played football. They continued to play in college at the University of West Alabama, where they both played linebacker. They then tried their hand at the family business and began training to be professional wrestlers in 2008.
WWE Debut
The Uso Brothers got their start in WWE through Florida Championship Wrestling (FCW) in 2009. They made their main roster debut on May 24, 2010, during an episode of Raw as heels alongside Tamina.
By 2013, The Usos had started to settle into their identity as a tag team. They wore colorful attire and donned face paint similar to their late uncle, Umaga. On the March 3, 2014, episode of Raw, The Usos defeated The New Age Outlaws to become the WWE Tag Team Champions for the first time in their career. Over the course of the next few years, The Usos established themselves as one of the greatest tag teams to ever grace the WWE.
Main Event Jey Uso
After Jimmy sustained a knee injury in early 2020, Jey was left to his own devices in WWE. He noticed his cousin, the WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns, was heading down a dark, heelish path and tried to snap him out of it. Unfortunately for Jey, this resulted in months of aggression and manipulation from Roman, who managed to reduce Jey to a tribal henchman.
When Jimmy eventually returned from his injury, he too faced Roman’s manipulation. The three of them eventually formed The Bloodline and became one of the most indomitable trios in WWE history. At Money in the Bank 2021, The Usos began their legendary reign as WWE Smackdown Tag Team Champions. They later captured the Raw Tag Team Champions, making them the inaugural Undisputed WWE Tag Team Champions.
Falling Out
Tensions began to present themselves in The Bloodline with the inclusion of Sami Zayn. Jey despised Sami, and continuously made his disdain apparent. Roman did not tolerate this dissension. However, Jey eventually warmed up to Sami by Survivor Series: WarGames, and the two became friends outside of Roman’s control. This made Sami’s departure from The Bloodline in early 2023 all the more emotional.
The Usos lost their titles to Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens at WrestleMania 39, bringing their record-breaking reign with the Smackdown Tag Team Championships to an end at 622 days (their Raw reign ended at 316 days). Things quickly began to unravel within The Bloodline.
After being betrayed by his brother Jimmy, Jey was brought to Monday Night Raw by Cody Rhodes. Jey and Cody then became Undisputed WWE Tag Team Champions, marking the first time either Uso brother won a tag title with a partner besides each other.
Since then, Jey has dubbed himself as the leader of the Yeet Movement. He is a fan favorite in the WWE universe, now able to spread his wings out of his family’s shadow.
