Initially, the Money in the Bank ladder match was an inaugural contest at WrestleMania. The first MITB ladder match was held at WrestleMania 21 and was won by Edge.

In 2010, WWE decided to dedicate an entire PLE to the event. The inaugural Money in the Bank PPV was held on July 18, 2010, in Kansas City, Missouri.

Money in the Bank 2023 was held at the O2 Arena in London England on July 1, 2023. It was the first Money in the Bank PLE to take place outside of the United States.

The men’s MITB ladder match opened the show and featured Butch, Damian Priest, LA Knight, Logan Paul, Santos Escobar, and Shinsuke Nakamura. Damian Priest of the Judgment Day upset the heavy favorite, LA Knight, by capturing the MITB briefcase and winning the bout.

Later on in the night, Bayley, Iyo Sky, Becky Lynch, Trish Stratus, Zelina Vega, and Zoey Stark competed in the women’s MITB ladder match. Iyo Sky came away from the bout victorious.
