When Was NXT Created?

The weekly show NXT was introduced on February 2, 2010, by Vince McMahon. It was intended to replace the weekly ECW show which had recently been canceled. Soon after, the developmental territory FCW was dissolved and revamped under the NXT umbrella, cementing NXT’s role as a primarily developmental brand.

Despite being largely overlooked by the majority of pro wrestling fans, NXT has delivered numerous iconic moments and several hard-hitting classics. Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa’s partnership, falling out, and bloodthirsty rivalry had audiences on the edge of their seats and helped form NXT’s identity as a brand. At The Great American Bash in 2020, Sasha Banks fought Iyo Sky in a long-awaited dream match.

Additionally, watching NXT gives wrestling fans a chance to see some of the sport’s biggest stars in the making. It’s always incredibly gratifying to watch these talents grow and blossom as they meet their full potential.
