When Was WWE Raw Created?
The first episode of Raw aired on January 11, 1993, on USA Network. It was created to replace WWE’s previous weekly program, Prime Time Wrestling, which aired on USA Network for eight years.
Initially, Raw was filmed in the Grand Ballroom at the Manhatten Center. Episodes were pre-taped in batches and aired every Monday night. In November 1993, WWE took the show on the road.
In September 1995, World Championship Wrestling began airing a new weekly program, Monday Nitro, therefore kicking off the infamous Monday Night Wars. The ratings war lasted until 2001, with WWE eventually winning out and buying WCW.
