The Brood might be a 20-year-old faction that was only around for a very limited time, but fans have been reminded of the group quite a lot lately. Edge revived the stable's iconic entrance at SummerSlam last year, and now The Rated R Superstar has effectively assumed Gangrel's role in his new faction, The Judgment Day. However, at a live event this past weekend, it was the lesser-known New Brood getting the hat tip.

The New Brood

The Hardy Boyz competed against Gangrel and Joey Janela, a group dubbed The New, New Brood for the sake of this match, for Big Time Wrestling. Despite being on opposing teams, Gangrel posed with Matt and Jeff Hardy after the match. Matt shared the photo on Twitter, declaring The New Brood had reunited, but probably just for that one night.

If you weren't aware these three were once part of the same group, that's understandable. The New Brood was only a thing for a very short time back in 1999 following the breakup of The Brood. Gangrel would recruit The Hardys to compete against Edge & Christian for the managerial services of Terri Runnels. One of the very first feuds in the iconic rivalry between the two tag teams.

Gangrel's Potential Returns

There have actually been a number of attempts to bring Gangrel back into the fold and remind fans of The Brood recently. The former WWE Superstar was reportedly supposed to do some work with AEW last year right around the time Edge revived The Brood's entrance. However, those plans were scrapped as the company didn't want to look like it was piggybacking on WWE's idea.

Gangrel also revealed prior to Christian signing with AEW that the two of them were planning a Brood reunion of their own. Nothing that would have spilled over into the ring per se, just the two of them making appearances together at shows and signings. Perhaps a proper reunion of the original Brood will happen one day. For now, The New Brood will have to do.
