Billy Gunn unsuccessfully challenged Ken Shamrock for the Intercontinental Championship at the 1999 Royal Rumble. However, Gunn flirted with Ken's sister Ryan which would infuriate Ken. Nevertheless, Billy was the special guest referee in Ken Shamrock's Intercontinental Championship match with Val Venis. Their match took place at St. Valentine's Day Massacre: In Your House.

This match is barely remembered since the WWE Championship match between Mankind and The Rock, and Steve Austin and Mr. McMahon's Steel Cage match were the memorable moments from this show. Billy screwed Shamrock as he fast counted his shoulders down which allowed Venis to win the Intercontinental Title.

9 Lost Tag Team Titles To Rikishi & Rico

Billy Gunn is no stranger to forming successful tag team partnerships. Chuck Palumbo was his latest tag team partner, and they formed an on-screen homosexual relationship. Rico was their stylist, and he became their manager.

Billy and Chuck wasted no time in winning the WWE Tag Team Championship from Spike Dudley and Tazz in February 2002. Three months later at Judgment Day, Billy and Chuck defended their titles against Rikishi and Rico. Rico did everything in his power to help his charges retain their titles. That failed to materialize with Billy and Chuck dropping the straps to the makeshift team of Rikishi and Rico.

8 Challenged Shawn Michaels For The WWE Championship

At WrestleMania 12, Shawn Michaels defeated Bret Hart to kickstart his first WWE Championship reign. Fans remember Michaels' WWE Title defenses against the likes of Diesel, Vader, Mankind, and Sycho Sid. However, whilst being one half-of the reigning WWE Tag Team Champions, Gunn challenged HBK for the WWE Title on July 15, 1996, edition of Raw.

He gave a good account of himself against Michaels. No one believed that Gunn was going to win the WWE Championship, with the Showstopper continuing his run as WWE Champion with Sweet Chin Music finishing off the job.

7 Final Four In The 2001 Royal Rumble Match

The 2001 Royal Rumble match was one of the best Royal Rumble matches in WWE history. Steve Austin was the overwhelming favorite, and he won his third Rumble in five years. Heavy hitters Austin, the runner-up Kane, and The Rock were amongst the final four participants in the Rumble. The odd one was out was Billy Gunn.

Gunn wasn't a former WWE Champion like the other three participants. He was the 28th entrant, and fans will forget that he reached that far in the Rumble. Gunn lasted seven minutes until eventual winner Steve Austin removed him from the equation.

6 Stole Bradshaw'sTag Team Championship Belt

Billy Gunn was flying solo by the spring of 1999, and he went on to win the King of the Ring tournament. On the June 21, 1999, edition of Raw, Billy stole Bradshaw's Tag Team Championship title belt. He picked up the fall in their six-man tag team match against X-Pac, Kane, and Road Dogg.

It was bizarre that Gunn stole Bradshaw's Tag Team Championship belt considering he wasn't the champion. Nevertheless, it was a good luck charm as he wore the title en route to winning the King of the Ring.

5 Teaming Up With Big Show

Billy Gunn and Big Show weren't featured in major storylines during the first part of 2001 but that changed until the Invasion angle began. The pair formed a short-lived tag team called The Show Gunns.

They didn't do anything noteworthy, and fans will forget that this team even happened. At Invasion, they teamed up with Intercontinental Champion Albert in a losing effort to The Alliance's Chris Kanyon, Shawn Stasiak, and Hugh Morrus. Their partnership quietly dissolved with Gunn going on to form a tag team with Chuck Palumbo.

4 Champion Vs. Champion Match With Road Dogg

On the March 15, 1999, edition of Raw, Billy Gunn and Road Dogg briefly went their separate ways and won singles championships. A week later, Billy Gunn's Hardcore Championship and Road Dogg's Intercontinental Title were up for grabs in a title-for-a-title match.

The New Age Outlaws members didn't hold back. Gunn was close to adding the Intercontinental Championship to his collection as he executed his patented Fameasser. Goldust, Val Venis, Hardcore Holly, and Al Snow interfered to ensure that their respective championship bouts at WrestleMania 15 would go ahead.

3 Competing In A Traditional Survivor Series Elimination Match In 2000

Billy Gunn recovered after he sustained a torn rotator cuff in his WWE Tag Team Championship loss with Road Dogg to the Dudley Boyz at No Way Out 2000. After eight months on the sidelines, Gunn turned face and reunited with his former DX ally Chyna.

Gunn was seething at how Eddie Guerrero mistreated Chyna. At Survivor Series 2000, Billy Gunn teamed up with Chyna, Road Dogg, and K-Kwik. They faced off with The Radicalz in a traditional Survivor Series elimination match. This bout is often overlooked, and The Radicalz' Chris Benoit and Perry Saturn were the sole survivors with Gunn taking the fall.

2 Teaming Up With Hardcore Holly

The final couple of years of Billy Gunn's run in WWE were underwhelming. Gunn sustained a shoulder injury, and he was far from his best. However, Gunn formed a partnership with fellow veteran Hardcore Holly in 2004.

Gunn and Holly's run in the limelight was short-lived. However, they challenged Charlie Haas and Rico for the WWE Tag Team Championship at Judgment Day. It was a decent match, but they failed to wrestle the gold away from Haas and Rico. Gunn was released from his WWE contract in November 2004 among other high-profile names who were no longer working for WWE.

When Billy Gunn returned to WWE in the fall of 2000, he aided Chyna in her feud with Right To Censor. Gunn and Chyna came up short in their tag team match against Val Venis and Steven Richards at No Mercy all thanks to outside interference from Eddie Guerrero.

On the October 30, 2000, edition of Raw, the leader of RTC, Steven Richards collided with Billy Gunn. If Gunn lost he would lose the rights to the 'Mr. Ass' name. Richards prevailed, and that's why Gunn began to be called "The One" Billy Gunn.
