WWE has evolved with gimmick matches, and Battle Royals are one concept that WWE, and other companies continue to use. Battle Royals generally have 20 or 30 participants involved in a match. A lot is going on, and wrestlers tend to form cohesive units with others as they have aspirations of going far in the match. Battle Royals tend to have stipulations, and some battle royals that WWE has produced over the years have featured a championship at stake.

Traditionally, championships change hands in one-on-one matches, but with a championship on the line in a Battle Royal, fans are interested to see what happens. Some title changes in a Battle Royal were fantastic, and others were underwhelming.

10 Gail Kim Wins The WWE Women's Championship - Raw (6/30/03)

Jazz defended the WWE Women's Championship against former Women's Champions Trish Stratus, Molly Holly, Ivory, Jacqueline, and Victoria in a Battle Royal, and Gail Kim who made her WWE debut was added to the mix on the June 30, 2003, edition of Raw. Ivory was the first competitor to be eliminated, and a new Women's Champion was guaranteed early on as Jazz dislocated her shoulder and she was unable to continue.

The match was average, and one of the usual suspects would have been favored to have captured the Women's Championship. However, Kim had other ideas as she stunned Victoria by eliminating her and she was crowned as the new Women's Champion on her debut.

9 Sheamus Wins The United States Championship - Raw (5/5/14)

The deck was stacked against Dean Ambrose as his United States Championship was up for grabs in a Battle Royal on the May 5, 2014 episode of Raw. Big Show and Mark Henry had a standoff and Sheamus nailed Show with a Brogue Kick with everyone working together to successfully remove Show from the bout.

Ambrose, Sheamus, RybAxel, and Jack Swagger were the final five participants. The Lunatic Fringe removed RybAxel and Swagger from the equation. Sheamus then connected with the Brogue Kick on Ambrose, and he dumped him over the top rope to become a two-time United States Champion, which brought Ambrose's 351-day US Championship run to a crashing halt.

8 The Miz Wins The Intercontinental Championship - Battleground 2014

Wade Barrett sustained an injury which is why the vacant Intercontinental Championship was at stake at Battleground 2014. The Miz spent large portions of the match on the outside, and he attempted to eliminate Sheamus. Miz was once again biding his time as Dolph Ziggler took him out with a Zig-Zag, and he rolled to the outside.

Sheamus was the reigning United States Champion, and he was looking to add the Intercontinental Title to his collection. The Celtic Warrior came close, but he was eliminated by Ziggler, and Miz snuck up behind Ziggler to win the Intercontinental Championship for the third time in his career.

7 The Hardys Win The World Tag Team Championship - Raw (4/2/07)

John Cena and Shawn Michaels defended the World Tag Team Championship twice just 24 hours removed from their battle at WrestleMania 23. They competed in two 10-man tag team battle royals. Michaels blindsided Cena by dumping him over the top rope, and they were no longer the World Tag Team Champions because of HBK's act.

New champions were guaranteed, and the Hardys slugged it out with Lance Cade and Trevor Murdoch in a bid to take home the titles. Ultimately, the Hardys connected with Poetry in Motion on Murdoch, and they won Tag Team Championships in WWE for the first time in six years.

6 The Great Khali Wins The World Heavyweight Championship - SmackDown (7/20/07)

Unfortunately, Edge relinquished the World Heavyweight Championship on the June 20, 2007, edition of SmackDown as he tore his pectoral muscle. A 20-man Battle Royal was held, and The Great Khali cleaned house. Mark Henry was a threat, but wrestlers grouped to eliminate Henry, and the World's Strongest Man was livid.

Batista had a great outing here, and he was the logical choice to win the title, considering he had hunted Edge down for the gold. Nevertheless, Khali, Kane, and Batista were the final three competitors. Whilst, Kane and Batista were preoccupied, Khali eliminated both men and he was crowned the new World Heavyweight Champion.

5 Randy Savage Wins The WCW Championship - World War 3 1995

The vacant WCW Championship was on the line in a 60-man World War 3 match in 1995. There was too much going on in this bout for fans to follow. Nevertheless, it was star-studded with the likes of Randy Savage, Hulk Hogan, The Giant, Lex Luger, and Sting, all in action.

There was controversy surrounding the finish and Hogan was right to feel angry. Macho Man was the last man standing despite The Giant pulling Hogan beneath the ropes. Hogan technically wasn't eliminated, but Savage was the beneficiary as he captured the WCW Championship.

4 Kurt Angle Wins The World Heavyweight Championship - SmackDown 1/13/06

SmackDown was looking a bit thin as they had some injuries to deal with. Kurt Angle returned to SmackDown in his home state of Pennsylvania in a Battle Royal for the vacant World Heavyweight Championship. Angle was not welcomed by the SmackDown locker room, but the Olympic Gold Medalist took care of JBL and Vito within seconds.

Mark Henry was another strong contender, and he put Angle through the broadcast table. The World's Strongest Man was dominant, but Angle refused to stay down. He got back up, and it was a happy return to the blue brand as he eliminated Henry to win the World Heavyweight Championship.

3 Bret Hart Wins The WWE Championship - In Your House: Final Four, 1997

Shawn Michaels lost his smile and the WWE Championship was vacated. Bret Hart, Steve Austin, The Undertaker, and Vader collided in a unique Fatal-4-Way Elimination match at In Your House: Final Four that had several rules. You could eliminate your opponent by pinfall, submission, or throwing them over the top rope like a Battle Royal.

The action was non-stop right from the word go. Hart and The Undertaker were the final two left in the field, and they were former WWE Champions. The pair slugged it out it but it was Hart who captured his fourth WWE Championship by throwing him over the top rope all thanks to Austin's involvement.

2 Christian Wins The Intercontinental Championship - Judgment Day 2003

WWE retired the Intercontinental Championship for seven months, and at Judgment Day 2003, a Battle Royal was held to crown a brand new Intercontinental Champion. There was a caveat as this match was only opened for current and former Intercontinental Champions.

Booker T was the only participant who never held the Intercontinental Championship. The match was good, and Christian blindsided Jericho by eliminating him from the match. Booker thought that he had won the title, but Christian assaulted him with the Intercontinental Title belt after he knocked down Pat Patterson. Christian went home happy as he became a two-time Intercontinental Champion.

1 Triple H Wins The WWE Championship - Royal Rumble 2016

For the first time in 24 years, the WWE Championship was contested in a Royal Rumble match. Roman Reigns was the defending WWE Champion, and he entered the 2016 Royal Rumble match to kickstart his title defense as the number one entrant.

Reigns did extremely well as he came incredibly close to retaining the WWE Championship. Triple H returned as the 30th entrant, and he was in no mood to hang around. He eliminated Reigns, and Dean Ambrose to become WWE Champion for the 14th and final time in his incredible wrestling career.
