WWE fans were treated to many special rivalries during the Attitude Era, but few were as thrilling as the program between Triple H and Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson.

Both became mainstays in WWE during the final years of the "Monday Night Wars" with the rival WCW promotion. Along with the likes of "Stone Cold" Steve Austin, Shawn Michaels, The Undertaker and Vince McMahon, The Game and The People's Champion were driving forces behind the successful transition to the Attitude Era.

Triple H and The Rock delivered countless epic matches and promos together in the late '90s and early 2000s. However, there's one thing about their historic feud that Triple H himself regrets.

Speaking on the Impaulsive Podcast (h/t Inside The Ropes), Triple H expressed regret over the fact that he and The Rock never squared off in a singles match at WrestleMania. They were both involved in a Fatal 4-Way match at WrestleMania 2000 that also featured Mick Foley and Big Show, which Triple H won to become the WWE Champion:

“My only regret of the whole thing with Rock is in 2000 we were poised to have a match at WrestleMania one-on-one, and I think that would have been an epic thing for both of us in that moment. The timing of ‘Taker’s return, and Austin’s return, and Austin wasn’t quite ready yet, so they pushed the WrestleMania match....

A couple of months later we would have the one-on-one Iron Man Match that we wanted to have at WrestleMania. Unfortunately for me, I just feel that’s the one thing, we got to this unbelievable, heated long-term rivalry and then never got to pay it off on the biggest platform

possible. I think Rock feels that way too."

Triple H and The Rock

Unfortunately, WWE fans will never get the opportunity to see these two meet one-on-one on The Grandest Stage of Them All. Triple H suffered cardiac arrest last September and required surgery. He is now retired from in-ring competition. Though The Rock announced his retirement from wrestling in Aug. 2019, it's widely believed that he could come back for a dream match against Roman Reigns.

The Rock & Triple H Briefly Shared The Ring At WrestleMania 31

The two wrestling icons had a memorable meeting in the ring at WrestleMania 31. Triple H had defeated Sting (wrestling his first match for WWE) earlier in the evening. Triple H and Stephanice McMahon taunted the crowd at Levi's Stadium, but the fans got the last laugh when The Rock and then-UFC star Ronda Rousey showed up in the ring.

The Rock and Rousey worked together in attacking Triple H and forcing him out of the ring. Stephanie berated Rousey but was quickly placed in an armbar hold before The Baddest Woman on the Planet let her go. This, of course, would set the stage for the Rousey-Kurt Angle vs. Triple H and Stephanie showdown at WrestleMania 32.
