A talk that will go down in the history of Hall of Fame speeches as one of the more unique ever, Mark Calaway not only thanked a variety of people, but also paid homage to his friends past and present, and left the fans with some sound advice.
The final induction into the 2022 Hall of Fame class started with a touching tribute by Vince McMahon who called The Undertaker one of the most loyal men he ever knew. Saying he had a level of integrity few could ever match, Vince said no person was more deserving to get into the Hall of Fame. When The Undertaker came out, he received what was close to a 10-minute-long ovation from the live crowd. It was a sustained showing of gratitude and appreciation that fell upon a man who spent 30 years entertaining the fans.
With that 30-year history, Calaway had a lot to say, and he was equipped with a headset microphone and worked the ring like a motivational speaker who was showcasing just a touch of what he'd probably offered WWE Superstar after WWE Superstar for years behind the curtain. Listing off what he called his "three mental moves", he made sure to leave the crowd with the wisdom that perception is reality, respect and loyalty go a long way and never be content.
Taker told story after story of his family and friends and showed great appreciation for Vince, who had given him the opportunity of a lifetime and he got emotional when talking about his kids and his wife, Michelle McCool.
Never Say Never
Just as Taker was about to leave, the turned back and took one of the many jackets and hats that were on display in the ring with him and put them on. As he was leaving the ring, he slowed, looked around the arena, and said, "Never say never." It's a phrase synonymous with WWE and a potential hint that The Undertaker might have one more match left in him.
