Roman Reigns and Brock Lesnar have clashed so many times, every new match between the two has to have something that is going to pull the fans in all over again. At WrestleMania this year, that new angle was putting both the WWE and Universal Titles on the line. A winner takes all affair with the victor in the match being named the Unified WWE Universal Champion.

USA Wants An Interim Champion

Reigns won that match, presumably, among other reasons, because he would be around more than Lesnar immediately afterward. That hasn't really worked out and The Tribal Chief has taken more of a part-time role since that win. That has resulted in Reigns not appearing on Raw nearly as often as he has continued to appear on SmackDown, and the USA Network is understandably unhappy about that.

While Raw and SmackDown might both fall under the WWE banner, the shows air on different networks. If the top guy, and both World Titles, is appearing almost exclusively on Fox's SmackDown, that's naturally going to annoy USA quite a bit. So much so that according to Fightful Select (via Inside The Ropes) network execs have requested WWE name someone an interim champion on Raw to make up for it.

Is Three World Titles A Good Idea?

The finer details of how exactly USA would envision this happening are unclear. Crowning someone Interim World Champion on Raw would result in three active World Titles on WWE's main roster at the same time. With some fans thinking two is already too many, that's probably not a good idea. The other solution is getting one of those titles off Reigns, and we may have seen the beginnings of that on SmackDown this week.

The road to Drew McIntyre versus Reigns at Clash at the Castle appeared to be clear. That was until Karrion Kross popped up (sort of) unexpectedly and appeared to call time on The Tribal Chief's 700+ day run. A different report suggests WWE will have Kross challenge Reigns for one title while McIntyre challenges for the other. A challenger winning one of those matches might be WWE's solution to the lack of a World Champion on Raw problem.
