With the wider acceptance of gay marriage in the United States, it seems like professional sports are following suit, as openly LGBT athletes are increasingly welcome. While still reluctant to celebrate diversity, slowly but surely unfair prejudices against the LGBT community are being done away with.

Surprisingly, more so than most sports, the world of professional wrestling has been especially welcoming to openly gay performers. There is still a long way to go into integrating gay or even bisexual subplots into the wrestling itself, but the wider acceptance of these athletic stars have been a positive force.

This spirit of acceptance is especially welcome in light of the continued struggle that many LGBT people face, such as the law passed in North Carolina blocking local governments from passing anti-discrimination rules to grant protections to gay and transgender people.
