After working in various roles under his father, Vince McMahon Sr, in the World Wide Wrestling Federation, Vince McMahon saved up enough money to purchase the promotion from his father, who was ailing with Pancreatic Cancer.

Vince and Linda McMahon started Titan Sports Inc in 1980 and bought the Cape Cod Coliseum in Massachusetts, and started to promote various wrestling and hockey events at the venue.

The McMahons then acquired full control of the WWWF from Vince McMahon Sr in 1982 and renamed the promotion as the World Wrestling Federation, and soon made it into a global empire.

Between 1996 to 1997, Vince McMahon slowly became an on-screen character. Up to that point, McMahon continued to work as WWE's lead commentator and decided to start his on-screen journey as the Mr. McMahon character.

However, it took Linda McMahon some time to introduce herself to the WWE Universe, as she first appeared on WWE TV during the Corporate Ministry storyline in 1999.
