Vince McMahon is reportedly set for trial next month, having become the subject of a lawsuit.

The WWE boss is in hot water given the recent disclosure regarding the ongoing investigation into alleged misconduct. But this has nothing to do with it and actually concerns the XFL, which has since been sold to Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.

McMahon attempted to reboot the XFL in 2018 and hired Oliver Luck as commissioner. The first season did get off to a great start, but it had to be shut down because of the COVID-19 pandemic, which eventually forced it into bankruptcy.

Luck, who was terminated from his position, sued McMahon shortly after. The former NFL quarterback had an annual salary of $5 million, plus bonuses and is claiming he is owed a further $23.8 million - McMahon is also being pressed for damages and lawyer fees.

McMahon, who stepped away from his WWE CEO duties on Friday, has countersued Luck, with claims the former commissioner “knowingly and deliberately deceived” him on several occasions, especially when it came to the signings of Antonio Callaway and Martavis Bryant.

Callaway was suspended from the NFL for issues pertaining to substance abuse and credit card fraud while Bryant was suspended from the NFL in 2016 for violating the league’s substance abuse policy.

McMahon pointed out that Luck was obligated to bring in players with no troublesome issues and was terminated for failing to do so.

Not Even 10 Minutes

According to The athletic, the parties attempted a sitdown in an attempt to agree on a settlement, however, talks broke down in just nine minutes, which led to a trial being scheduled for July.

“A settlement conference in the Oliver Luck litigation against Vince McMahon over compensation from Luck’s time running the XFL lasted nine minutes, according to the court docket. A trial is scheduled next month,” the report reads.

Meanwhile, The Rock has announced that the XFL will relaunch in February next year on the back of his acquisition alongside ex-wife and business partner Dany Garcia and RedBird Capital Partners.
