Before he became a multi-time WWE Champion and one of the most adaptable performers in pro wrestling in the 21st century, Chris Jericho entered most fans’ radars in World Championship Wrestling. There, he started out as a vanilla babyface before turning heel and showing off the obnoxious, trolling personality that would define him for several generations of fans going all the way to All Elite Wrestling in the late 2010s to today.

But in WCW, Jericho would be entertaining but ultimately reach a ceiling as far as how management was willing to utilize him, prompting him to jump ship to WWE in 1999. Let’s take a look at his final matches in the company, starting with the worst of the bunch.

10 Chris Jericho vs. Booker T (WCW Monday Nitro, 4/5/1999)

WCW Television Champion Booker T

After defeating Chris Adams in the first round, Chris Jericho made it to the semi-finals to determine a new United States Champion after Scott Hall was stripped of the belt. Unfortunately, this bout lasted a little less than four minutes before Scott Steiner interfered in the match to draw a Disqualification finish. This ensures that the finals of the tournament would be Steiner vs. Booker, and this forgettable match is made worse by the fact that this is Jericho’s last bout for WCW, though it wasn’t the last to air on television.

9 Chris Jericho vs. Perry Saturn (WCW Saturday Night, 3/27/1999)

Two weeks after their big Dog Collar Match at Uncensored (see below), Chris Jericho and Perry Saturn clashed in the main event of this late March WCW Saturday Night. Despite being a main event, the result is anything but exciting, as Jericho spends much of the match stalling in order to draw the ire of both Saturn and the live crowd. Ultimately, the bout ends in a DQ finish after Saturn uses a chain that Jericho introduced in the match.

8 Chris Jericho vs. Jerry Flynn (WCW Monday Nitro, 3/29/1999)

Jerry Flynn

This late March edition of Nitro was held in Toronto, so the Canadian Jericho made sure to trash his home country for some easy heel heat before taking on Jerry Flynn, who can be summed up as fans’ least favorite martial arts themed wrestler.

The match itself is totally forgettable, a four-and-a-half minute contest that ends with Jericho getting a cheap pinfall victory assisted by Jericho’s feet being on the ropes for some more easy heel heat.

7 Chris Jericho vs. Lizmark Jr. (WCW Monday Nitro, 3/8/1999)

Six days ahead of his aforementioned Uncensored ‘99 Dog Collar Match with Perry Saturn, Chris Jericho had a squash match against forgotten cruiserweight Lizmark Jr. on Nitro. Rather than simply squash poor Lizmark, however, Jericho got the luchador to agree to make their bout an impromptu Dog Collar Match so he could prove his adeptness at the stipulation ahead of Sunday. The result is a four-and-a-half minute squash that Jericho dominates, of course, with some fun chain spots before locking in the Liontamer to win.

6 Chris Jericho vs. Chris Adams (WCW Thunder, 4/1/1999)

Gentleman Chris Adams in WCW

One of the more surprising revelations of Chris Jericho’s late WCW career is that he had a match with Chris Adams, former World Champion in World Class Championship Wrestling who had a classic feud with a young Steve Austin, who Adams also trained. This was a first round match in a tournament to crown a new United States Champion, with Jericho beating Adams in less than six minutes, as Chris Adams had devolved to jobber status at this point in his career. That said, both men did a decent job in this otherwise forgettable tournament match.

5 Chris Jericho vs. Booker T (WCW Monday Nitro, 3/15/1999)

Despite losing to Perry Saturn at Uncensored the night before, Jericho ended up getting a shot at Booker T’s Television Title the following night on Nitro. While it runs a substantial 13 minutes and Jericho comes out selling his injuries from the previous night via taped-up ribs — which does play into the match — the bout ultimately ends in another DQ. In this one, Jericho pulls the referee in the way of a dropkick from Booker T.

4 Chris Jericho vs. Scott Steiner (WCW Monday Nitro, 3/22/1999)

Midajah And Scott Steiner

Initially, Chris Jericho was knocked out of the United States title tournament by Scott Steiner in this match, but an injury forced Curt Hennig to drop out of the bracket, resulting in Jericho getting a second try against Chris Adams.

This first bout against Steiner was actually a pretty solid effort for a five minute match, but fans have noted that Jericho seemed checked out on WCW at this point, as he was prepared to jump ship to WWE.

3 Chris Jericho vs. Kaz Hayashi (WCW Saturday Night, 4/3/1999)

By 1999, few fans were expecting WCW Saturday Night to deliver any all-time classics, but those who did tune in might see some decent matchups, albeit ones where the victor was never in question. Chris Jericho taking on Japanese cruiserweight Kaz Hayashi is a great example of this, a brief but solid match that ends with Jericho submitting Hayashi with his Liontamer finisher. It’s the kind of cruiserweight action that WCW fans tend to look back on fondly.

2 Chris Jericho vs. Booker T (WCW Thunder, 4/7/1999)

Chris Jericho vs. Booker T on WCW Thunder

This Thunder match had Booker T and Chris Jericho main eventing the show, with Booker defending his World Television Title against Jericho. Running a respectable nine-and-a-half minutes, it’s a solid, competitive bout between two WCW stars not known for being ex-WWE guys — that is, until interference from Scott Steiner and Stevie Ray eventually lead to Booker T getting the win over Jericho. Airing days after his 4/5/1999 Nitro match with Booker T despite being taped the week prior, this could be considered Jericho’s final match with the company.

1 Chris Jericho vs. Perry Saturn (WCW Uncensored, 3/14/1999)

Chris Jericho vs. Perry Saturn (WCW Uncensored, 3/14/1999)

Arguably Chris Jericho’s biggest match of this final run in WCW, Jericho took on Perry Saturn in a Dog Collar match on pay-per-view. Hardly the worst match on Uncensored — that would be the ridiculous First Blood Cage match between Ric Flair and Hulk Hogan — this bout isn’t exactly a forgotten classic in Jericho’s time at WCW or anything like that. It’s well wrestled, but the crowd isn’t totally into it, and it isn’t quite as violent as the stipulation would suggest.
